The online casino industry is starting to shift in Pennsylvania. To keep up with the evolution, Betway announced it is temporarily shutting down to undergo a platform overhaul.

Betway is one of 21 PA online casinos. It is offered in partnership with Live! Casino Philadelphia, which also utilizes the new Jackpot City and PlayLive!

The operator hopes to come back stronger after making enhancements to its platform, including the sportsbook.

Betway suspending services to enhance PA online casino and sportsbook

Betway Casino PA emailed a notice to players, informing them of a temporary shuttering of its app. In the email, Betway said:

“Betway will soon be briefly suspending services to move to a brand new platform. This upgrade will include faster load times, new sports betting features, and general enhancements to improve your wagering experience.”

Players’ balances will automatically transfer over to the new format. However, any open bets won’t be visible on the upgraded platform, but if they hit, winnings will be added to the account balance.

Betway then provided instructions on how to log back into the app:

“Once we are finished suspending services, you will need to log back in & reset your password to fully experience our great new changes.”

The upgrade impacts the entire system, which includes Betway Sportsbook PA. The operator did not announce how long the shutdown will last.

Betway isn’t the only platform to perform a system upgrade. Kindred Group upgraded the Unibet platform recently, although Kindred is pulling Unibet out of Pennsylvania next year.

Betway is hoping for different results. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) breaks down online casino revenue by licensee, and not by operator, which makes it difficult to tell exactly how Betway performs.

Live! Casino Philadelphia operates Betway with its own brand, PlayLive!, and the newly launched Jackpot City. In October, Live! Casino Philadelphia generated $4 billion in revenue, which is seventh among licenses.

Betway released its online casino in 2021 and has helped Live! Casino Philadelphia reach a lifetime revenue of $96.1 million through October.

Betway is toward the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to PA online sportsbooks. In a record month for sports betting providers, Betway produced $10.2 million in October handle, which finished 11th out of 13 platforms.

Since launching a sportsbook in June 2021, the operator has generated $196.2 million in total bets, which sits 12th overall.

Betway is aiming for better results after a successful platform upgrade.
