Ruthless Hanover controlled Sunday’s $16,000 fast-class handicap feature at Harrah’s Philadelphia. The Somebeachsomewhere gelding paced to a 1:49.4 win. That result lifted his lifetime earnings to $1,022,264.

Past the Million-Dollar Mark

George Napolitano Jr. drove the Somebeachsomewhere gelding. The pair went past middle splits of:55.2 and 1:22.2 and closed with a :27.2 final quarter. Captain Crusader A edged Blue Lou for second.

Tom Cancelliere trains the gelding. His brother John Cancelliere owns him.

The Record That Still Stands

The win adds to an unusual resume. Ruthless Hanover paced a 1:46.3 mile over this same track in May 2023.

That mile remains the fastest ever by a Standardbred on a five-eighths-mile track, according to the U.S. Trotting Association. He erased a 1:46.4 world mark from November 2022.

Elsewhere on the Chester Card

Taranaki won the $13,000 fast-class pacing sub-feature in 1:50. Fractions came in at:26.4,:54.3, and 1:22. Jonathan Ahle drove for trainer Paul Jessop and co-owner Laurie Molnar.

Smooth Dream took the $14,000 top pace for developing horses in 1:51. The 4-year-old son of Cattlewash won by three parts of a length after splits of :27.1, :56.2, and 1:23.3. Noel Daley trains him for Bay Pond Racing Stable, CTC Stable, and KDP Stable LLC.

Ahle and Troy Beyer each posted three wins on the afternoon. Napolitano Jr. and Trae Porter each had two.

What’s Next

Fans of Chester track must keep an eye on the next card. Harrah’s Philadelphia returns Thursday, July 23 with Trottin’ Thursday. First post is 12:25 p.m.
