Rivers Casino Philadelphia evacuated employees and customers for a brief period on Thursday morning. There was no reason given, but it appears that there was no actual threat to guests’ safety.
A spokesperson from the property told PlayPennsylvania the following:
“Rivers Casino Philadelphia was briefly evacuated this morning out of an abundance of caution while police checked the building.
“The property was determined to be safe, and Team Members and guests returned soon thereafter. The casino is open and operating today as usual.”
Whether it’s online casinos or retail properties, the safety of customers and employees is what’s most important.
Evacuation happened early Thursday morning
Video from CBS Chopper 3 saw Philadelphia police and other law enforcement block the entrance to the casino at around 7 a.m. on Thursday. Rivers Casino Philadelphia did not disclose how long the evacuation lasted.
PlayPennsylvania reached out to the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) to ask for more information. The PSP has not immediately responded for comment.
It appears as if Rivers Casino Philadelphia can put this incident behind them. The casino is facing proposed class action lawsuits because of a data breach that happened in November. According to one suit, there would be at least 100 impacted customers who qualify for the class action.
One suit is looking for $5 million because of the data breach, which the plaintiff claims includes social security numbers and bank account information.
