Harrah’s Philadelphia and Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania are set to stage $2.8 million in Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Championship and consolation races. One of the biggest matchups comes in the freshman colt pace final.

The series schedule has sophomores racing Sunday at Harrah’s Philadelphia and freshmen set for Monday at Pocono. The two-year-old card was drawn Tuesday at Pocono.

Two Unbeaten Colts Set Up Freshman Showdown

Shalom Hanover and Starstruck Dreamer both enter the freshman colt pace finale undefeated in five starts.

Shalom Hanover drew post 1. He finished off a 1:49.2f world-record performance at Pocono. After that effort, he also won the Dream Maker and Nassagaweya Stakes in Ontario.

Starstruck Dreamer drew post 8. He won in 1:49.4f at Pocono. He then turned in a 1:48.4f mile at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Aug. 14. The performance was the fastest mile ever by a two-year-old on a five-eighths-mile track.

Both horses had already shown sub-1:50 speed at Pocono on Aug. 3. That sets up what appears to be the marquee clash on the freshmen card.

What Pennsylvania Racing Fans Should Watch

For Pennsylvania harness racing followers, the immediate focus is split between the two tracks: Harrah’s Philadelphia hosting the sophomore championships Sunday and Pocono hosting the freshmen Monday.

The freshman colt pace final stands out. It pits two unbeaten colts against each other after both delivered record-level performances in recent starts. Post position could also be part of the story, with Shalom Hanover starting from the rail and Starstruck Dreamer from the outside in post 8.

A full release covering all eight championship divisions was still forthcoming. Additional race-by-race details were not yet available.
