Parx Casino held onto the top spot in Pennsylvania in June. The property posted $44.5 million in revenue. The state’s same-store casino market declined 7.5% for the month. That figure excludes newly opened Happy Valley Casino.
Widespread Declines Follow Happy Valley’s Slowdown
Happy Valley Casino brought in $2.5 million in June. That total was down 33% from May. The broader Pennsylvania casino market also showed widespread weakness across several major properties.
- Wind Creek Bethlehem had one of the sharpest drops among the state’s largest properties. The casino fell 20.5% to $36 million.
- In the Philadelphia market, Philadelphia Live was down 11.5% to $18.5 million.
- Rivers Philadelphia slipped 6.5% to $16.5 million.
- Harrah’s Philadelphia fell 3% to $10.5 million.
- Valley Forge Resort was a rare gainer. It rose 4.5% to $11.5 million.
Western Pennsylvania also saw declines.
- Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh was down 8% to $23.5 million.
- Hollywood Meadows fell 3.5% to $15.5 million.
- Pittsburgh Live dipped 3% to $9 million.
Mixed Results Across the Rest of the State
Elsewhere in the state, the revenue report is as follows:
- Mohegan Pocono declined 2.5% to $16 million.
- Mount Airy Resort fell 6% to $16 million.
- Hollywood Penn National dropped 13.5% to $11.5 million.
- Hollywood York fell 10.5% to $7.5 million.
- Presque Isle Downs was down 2.5% to $8 million.
- Hollywood Morgantown rose 8.5% to $6 million. Parx Shippensburg increased 8% to $3.5 million.
What It Means for Pennsylvanians
For Pennsylvania players, June’s report points to a quieter month at many brick-and-mortar casinos. The month did not see a reshuffling at the top.
Parx remained the market leader. Most of the movement came from varying declines at competing properties. Plus, no new statewide frontrunner emerged.
The direction of the market depends on the next monthly state revenue report. June’s slowdown could be a one-month blip. However, it could also mark the start of a longer stretch of softer retail casino performance in Pennsylvania.
