The Pennsylvania online casino industry reached a massive milestone of surpassing $10 billion in lifetime revenue in June.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported on Thursday morning that operators produced $265.2 million in revenue last month. The market has amassed nearly $10.2 billion in total revenue.

Pennsylvania online casinos experienced a year-over-year increase of 35.6% but a month-over-month decrease of 9.1%. Despite the dip, June was able to provide operators with a huge achievement.

How the PA market made history

Pennsylvania has been the clear No. 1 online casino market in the US for quite some time. The industry has grown exponentially over the years to reach this illustrious milestone.

July marks the six-year anniversary of the launch of online casinos in the Keystone State. To put it into perspective, July 2019 yielded just $1.4 million in total revenue.

Figures are now reaching near $300 million in a single month. Operators almost hit that mark in March ($294.2 million) and May ($291.7 million) of this year.

The COVID-19 pandemic certainly sparked interest in online gambling, especially iGaming. Revenue for the calendar years has grown ever since:

  • 2021: $1.29 billion
  • 2022: $1.67 billion
  • 2023: 2.11 billion
  • 2024: 2.71 billion

Operators are on pace to generate $3.33 billion in revenue by the end of the year, which smashes the record set in 2024. Lifetime revenue is expected to near $12 billion in December, which would be another milestone.

Market takes a step back

The $262.5 million in reported revenue for June is one of the lowest totals of the year. February experienced the lowest figure of $261.5 million.

The summer months are expected to be slower in Pennsylvania. In 2024, June was the second-lowest month of the year, recording only $195.6 million in earnings. June and January were the only months that did not reach $200 million in 2024.

Every operator took a hit this June. The Hollywood Penn National licensee, which features DraftKings, BetMGM, Fanatics and Hollywood, saw a 10.6% month-over-month decrease.

The PGCB does not break down revenue by operator, so it’s difficult to see the exact dip from each platform. However, since Golden Nugget is a Qualified Gaming Entity, revenue results for it are available. That platform took a major hit in June, falling 36% from May.

July and August could also be on the slower side. The market is likely to pick up again in the fall, when the sports calendar fills back up with football and basketball.
