The 2026 FIFA World Cup has lived up to all of the hype as Philadelphia hosted multiple games in June. The beneficiaries were not only Philadelphians, but sports wagering operators, too.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported that Pennsylvania sportsbooks recorded $570.3 million in handle. PA sports betting revenue came in at $48 million.

Pennsylvania clearly benefited from the World Cup coming to the United States. In addition, having games at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia likely brought in new tourists wanting to bet on soccer.

Drastic YoY increase

June is usually a down month with only the NBA Finals as the main sporting event that isn’t baseball. With the US and Pennsylvania hosting World Cup games, it certainly drove excitement.

To prove that, handle increased on a year-over-year basis at a 17.9% rate. It’s the first time operators surpassed $500 million in June handle.

Despite the big year-over-year increase, handle decreased only 4.2% month-over-month. In 2025, the month-over-month drop was 26.2%.

Lincoln Financial Field hosted five games in June and one in July. Handle is likely to see a boost in July, too, but it might be softer as the tournament starts to wind down.

Sports wagering sets FY revenue record

With the 2025/2026 fiscal year coming to a close, operators set a new record, registering an all-time revenue record of $662.9 million. The previous years are as follows:

  • 21/22: $315.7 million
  • 22/23: $492 million
  • 23/24: $486.6 million
  • 24/25: $487.6 million
  • 25/26: $662.9 million

Handle did decrease year-over-year, falling from $8.7 billion to $8.4 billion, which is mostly due to the maturity of the market. Despite that, operators are still attracting a solid hold.

FanDuel hangs on

FanDuel Sportsbook PA is still the market leader in Pennsylvania. However, it is hanging on for dear life.

The operator produced $188.1 million in total bets, while its biggest rival, DraftKings Sportsbook PA, generated $183.8 million.

FanDuel’s market share has been quietly declining as DraftKings’ has been increasing. FanDuel’s market share dipped to 33% in June, down from 33.8% in May. DraftKings improved to 32.2% in June from 31.7% in May.

FanDuel is looking right over its shoulder as football season approaches.
