Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course is preparing for the Preakness Stakes, the second leg of horse racing‘s Triple Crown, by hosting the popular Corgi Cup.
The event starts at 2 p.m., as visitors can bet on the Preakness, and also enjoy everything else the casino has to offer. The Corgi Cup is a premier event at Penn National Race Course.
The casino also offers other live horse racing, with no cost to enter.
Interesting Corgi Cup rules
The deadline to apply for the Corgi Cup is on Thursday, as the race takes places on Saturday, May 17. The set the maximum number of Corgis to race at 64.
The amount of heats are also unknown, until registration closes. The winner of each moves onto the championship round.
There also must be two people, with one standing at the starting gate and the other at the finish line. The casino provided a tip that the person the dog is most closely bonded to should stand at the finish line. Here are some other tips Penn National Race Course offered:
“The person retrieving the dog at the finish line must stay 5-feet back from the finish line to encourage your dog (as well as others )to cross the finish line. If you stand too close to the finish line your dog will slow down and may not cross the finish line at all.”
Owners are also encouraged to bring the dog’s favorite toy. However, lights, laser pointers and objects thrown onto the course are not permitted.
Preakness day is a coveted event at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course. Tony Frabbiele, Vice President and General Manager, told ABC27:
“We’re thrilled to bring the excitement of Preakness Day to Central Pennsylvania with a unique mix of live racing, top-tier simulcasting, and the always popular Corgi Races.
“Whether you’re a horse racing fan, a dog lover, or just looking for a fun day out, there’s something for everyone.”
The casino is also including Family Fun Zone with a bounce house, rock climbing wall, and more for children under 18. Guests under 21 can attend the horse racing events, but can’t enter the casino.
