FanDuel is eliminating the use of credit cards to deposit money on its platform in Pennsylvania. The change is going into effect on March 2, which impacts FanDuel Sportsbook and FanDuel Casino users.

FanDuel faced pressure from Sen. Elizabeth Warren, ranking member of the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, who sent a letter to CEO Amy Howe last week asking for the operator’s credit card policies.

This move is not only subject to Pennsylvania. FanDuel decided to ban credit card use nationwide.

FanDuel’s decision

One of the largest operators in the world has decided to ban the use of credit cards to deposit money on its site. It certainly provides more protection to consumers.

The operator offered more information on its website:

“Starting March 2, 2026, FanDuel will no longer offer US credit card deposits on Sportsbook, Casino, and FanDuel Racing. This includes credit cards connected through Venmo, PayPal, and Apple Pay. You can connect your debit card or bank account instead.”

FanDuel customers are able to get any past credit card deposits refunded.

Other Pennsylvania sportsbooks and PA online casinos in the Keystone State still allow the use of credit cards. FanDuel, being the market leader in the state, could start a trend that others follow. Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Tennessee are markets that already have a ban in place.

Facing pressure

Warren issued a letter to FanDuel, wanting information on credit card policies. She also pointed out the hidden fees associated with credit card deposits, which are normally classified as a “cash advance.”

“Many users are unaware of the costs and fees associated with this type of credit card use, which can push them into financial trouble when gambling.

“Specifically, users are reporting that they did not realize that using their credit card to place a bet on a sports gambling website would be treated as a cash advance and accrue additional fees and interest.”

Pennsylvania Sen. Wayne Fontana introduced a bill in 2024 that would have banned all operators from accepting credit card deposits from customers. However, the measure did not advance.

There has not been a bill introduced in the current session so far.
