Fanatics Sportsbook’s Fair Play Max Covers Pennsylvania Bettors on 2 Fronts

A player prop can die two different ways that have nothing to do with whether the player was actually good that day: he gets hurt, or his team stops trying once the game’s decided.

Fanatics Sportsbook Michigan built Fair Play Max to cover Pennsylvania bettors against both.

The policy runs on two protections through the whole football season. First Half Protection refunds or voids a prop bet if the athlete it’s tied to leaves the game with an injury before halftime. Forward Progress, new for 2026, protects rushing and receiving prop overs from being pulled back under the line by kneel-downs and other clock-killing plays once a game has stopped being competitive.

First Half Protection isn’t new. Fanatics has run some form of injury protection since 2024 and widened it to cover the first half of every professional football game back in September 2025. Forward Progress is what’s actually new this year, and it addresses something injury protection never touched: a player clearing his prop total on the stat sheet, then getting shorted anyway because the offense went conservative late.

Has this policy held up under real conditions?

Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season put it to the test, when Kansas City receiver Xavier Worthy left a game with a shoulder injury.

The single-player prop bets tied to Worthy were refunded in full rather than graded as losses. The company puts the broader total at more than 500,000 protected bets and roughly $54 million saved.

How does that stack up against what Pennsylvania bettors get from other sportsbooks?

DraftKings’ Early Exit program pays a cash credit for bets significantly affected by an early injury, with coverage through the first half, similar in shape to Fanatics’ policy. FanDuel’s Bet Protect covers pre-game NFL props too, but only through the first quarter, half the coverage window Fanatics offers.

TheScore Bet’s Injury Insurance refunds a bet as a bonus bet once the injured player is ruled out for the rest of the game. All three run free, same as Fanatics. FanDuel also sells a paid, full-game version called Bet Protect+, but it’s NBA-only for now and hasn’t been approved for Pennsylvania.

Fanatics isn’t charging anything extra for Play Fair Max.

Pennsylvania already takes one of the largest cuts of sportsbook revenue in the country. A free bet-protection feature is one of the few things an operator here can still hand a bettor without it costing the state anything either.
