A Rivers Casino Philadelphia spokesperson told PlayPennsylvania on Wednesday that a data breach stemming from November 2024 has not affected the company’s BetRivers online casino vertical in the Keystone State. This news comes on the heels of Rivers Casino Pittsburgh customers getting affected by the cyberattack.
Rush Street Interactive (RSI), which spun off from its retail parent in 2020, owns and operates BetRivers and PlaySugarHouse platforms in Pennsylvania. It likely helped that retail casino and the online vertical and the loyalty programs are separate.
Players who have gamed strictly on RSI’s online platforms do not have worry about the data breach.
Rivers Casino Pittsburgh customers affected
Rivers Casino Philadelphia experienced a cyberattack on Nov. 18, and alerted those affected on Dec. 30. The casino is facing proposed class action lawsuits as a result.
However, WTAE received new information regarding Pittsburgh residents being affected, even though those individuals never visited the Philadelphia location. Rivers Casino Philadelphia told WTAE:
“While the incident occurred on Rivers Casino Philadelphia’s systems, the files involved in the incident included certain files held by Rivers Casino Philadelphia, which included patron information from the Rivers Casino Philadelphia and Pittsburgh locations.”
Rivers continues to reach out to individuals affected, and did so as late as Feb. 16. A letter obtained by WTAE disclosed that the victim’s person’s date of birth, Social Security number and driver’s license number was at risk.
In the letter, Rivers says it “implemented additional security measures to enhance the security of our network” to prevent another incident from occurring.
It also offered free credit card monitoring services for a year to affected individuals. The casino said that enrolling into such services would not change the individual’s credit score.
