Betfred has become the latest operator to depart the sports betting market in Pennsylvania.
Its land-based partner, Wind Creek Bethlehem, made the announcement on the casino’s website.
The PA sports betting market is incredibly competitive. The market continues to be dominated by two Pennsylvania sportsbooks, FanDuel and DraftKings.
Betfred sets July 31 deadline
According to Wind Creek’s website, Betfred stopped accepting bets on July 3 and will officially close operations on July 31. The operator gave instructions for bets that close after July:
“All existing wagers whose settlement date is after July 31, 2025, and if a winner, will be sent via check for their total return to the address we have for you on file.”
Customers can reach out to Wind Creek Bethlehem support for any changes of address between now and a winning bet that settles after the deadline.
Betfred has previously pulled out of Arizona, Colorado, Ohio, Maryland, and Virginia. It recently shuttered in Nevada, too, and now Pennsylvania. As of Aug. 1, the operator will be completely out of the US.
Another operator bites the dust
Betfred is the latest operator to pull out of Pennsylvania, which has been somewhat of a common theme. Super Group, which operated Betway, shuttered sports betting operations last summer.
Super Group just pulled the plug on Jackpot City Casino earlier this month. The company is focusing its efforts on other areas of the business.
Before Betway, Fox Bet was the latest online sportsbook to pack it up in Pennsylvania.
The Keystone State will be down to 10 sportsbooks in August. That leaves some room for other platforms to join the fray, as the state allows 14 sports betting licenses.
