Rivers Casino Sportsbook PA Sports Betting Review
Rivers Casino Pittsburgh is the most centrally-located casino for the second-largest city in Pennsylvania. It is located along the Ohio River, just northwest of Heinz Field.
Rush Street Interactive, the casino’s parent company filed an application with the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) in September to offer sports betting at Rivers Casino. It was finally ready to open the doors of the casino’s sportsbook on Dec. 15.
Along with Rivers and Philadelphia-area SugarHouse Casino, Rush Street also owns PlaySugarHouse.com in New Jersey. Since that site features an online sportsbook, Rush Street will use that experience for launching at Rivers. It will also rely on sports betting partner Kambi for its years of wagering experience.
Latest news on Rivers Casino online sportsbook
It was a bit later than expected, but Rivers Casino opened its sportsbook. On Dec. 13, the property began two days of PGCB-supervised testing where the public can place bets. The casino got the all clear to launch on Saturday, Dec. 15.
The Rivers retail sportsbook is one of the top two sportsbooks in the states so far. With only a few weeks of data to rely on though, it is not clear if it will retain this position.
Meanwhile, the date for online sports betting launch continues to get pushed. The latest news out of PA is that it could be until mid-year before we see any product launches.
Rivers Casino Sportsbook details
Rivers has a temporary facility on the southern gaming floor. The space encompasses roughly 3,000 square feet and offers both full-service cashiers and self-service kiosks.
There are also 15 high-definition televisions in the temporary book. Casino management has a 14′ by 7′ video wall for odds displays, which Rush Street has claimed is state of the art.
The hours of operation for the Rivers Sportsbook are:
- Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to midnight
- Fridays, 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.
- Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 2 a.m
- Sundays, 9 a.m. to midnight
Meanwhile, construction on the permanent sportsbook is proceeding in the center of the casino. Rivers personnel are renovating the Levels Lounge into a hall for sports wagering.
Obviously, we know more about the temporary facility than we do about the permanent one. However, it is reasonable to assume that many of the same features that are present in the temporary location will make their way over to the former Levels Lounge once construction is complete.
Possible new player bonuses and incentives
Customers of Rivers’ online sportsbook can expect a generous incentive and bonus program, especially given the competitive race for market share in Pennsylvania.
At the start of 2019, six brick-and-mortar betting shops are operating in the state. Most of those are looking to expand online. This stiff competition could lead to lucrative offers for new customers.
Rivers Sportsbook Bonus Offer – March 2019
For what to expect, let’s start with the bonus and incentive program of Rush Street’s other online sportsbook, PlaySugarhouse.com in New Jersey. SugarHouse NJ is offering new players a 100 percent match on initial deposits of up to $250. Players could expect a similar offer as a minimum at Rivers’ online.
To receive this bonus, a new customer will likely need to enter a bonus code when registering an account and making the first deposit. Bonus funds will then be added to the player’s account within two to five days.
A possible condition will be that players must wager the additional funds within 30 days. Any bonus money not wagered during that time is likely to expire.

Kambi is Rivers’ sports betting partner
Rush Street Interactive employs Kambi Technology across all of its sportsbooks and casinos. Kambi launched Rivers’ land-based sportsbook in December 2018. The company plans to start powering Rivers’ online sportsbook in early 2019.
Register an account with Rivers’ online sportsbook
Rivers’ customers can expect a fast and easy sign-up experience.
Players will likely need to provide their:
- Date of birth
- Physical address
- Email address
- Phone number
- Last four digits of their Social Security Number
Following that, they’ll likely be asked to choose a unique username and password.
The personal information provided is typically used to verify a customer’s identify and age and to activate the account. Though, photo identification will likely not be necessary, similar to the policy of PlaySugarHouse.com in New Jersey.
Instead, the sportsbook will use the player’s name, date of birth and Social Security Number to confirm his or her identity.
Rivers’ deposit and withdrawal methods
The preferred method of deposit is likely to be online bill pay with other options also available. Many sportsbooks and players opt for online bill pay because of the convenience, because a player only needs a banking identification and password. There is no need to provide a banking account number, as the funds are transferred immediately.
Other options for making a deposit are likely to include:
- Neteller (credit or debit card)
- PayNearMe (7-Eleven locations)
Typically, there are also multiple methods available for withdrawals. Potential options would include e-check, Neteller, bank transfer, or check by mail. An e-check withdrawal usually takes three to five days to process, while a check by mail can take up to 14 business days to reach the customer.
Will Rivers have a mobile app?
Mobile apps are expected to be available for both Android and iOS operating systems. It’s likely that players will need to visit the pertinent app store and download the app for Rivers Casino.
Based on Rush Street’s other mobile apps, players can expect a mobile experience that acts identically to the web version of Rivers’ sportsbook. This would mean all services and features are available to mobile customers including banking, browsing and placing bets.
What are the expected eligibility requirements to register?
Registration would be open to anyone 21 years or older.
A player does not need to be a Pennsylvania resident or located within the state to open an account. However, if players want to place a bet, they must be physically located within the borders of Pennsylvania. The sportsbook will determine a players’ whereabouts with their computer’s IP address or the location indicator on their mobile device.
Other restrictions on who can place a bet in Pennsylvania are also in place. State regulations do not allow wagers from persons who are athletes, managers, coaches, referees, athletic trainers, or other officials who influence the outcome of sporting events.
Additionally, if an employee of a sports governing body or member team wishes to make a bet, they will likely need to register with the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
Rivers’ online sportsbook loyalty program
Players may be eligible to join the Rivers Casino’s Rush Rewards Players Club. This no-cost, tier-based program provides prizes and benefits based on the amount of money a player wagers.
There are three levels of membership in the Rush Rewards Players Club. The starter level provides several benefits, including:
- Food and gift offers
- Free play offers
- Live entertainment offers
- Free self-parking
At the top tier, players can expect offers to include free valet parking, 25 percent off at the gift shop and Grand View Buffet, entry into promotions, and drawings and a personal host service.
Six months of inactivity will result in the expiration of all accrued Rush Rewards points. Rivers evaluates a player’s level of membership every six months.
Other Rivers promotions
Rivers’ online sportsbook is likely to have promotions similar to those of Rush Street’s other sports betting shops.
For example, players in New Jersey earn an entry in the Big Game Getaway Sweepstakes with each $100 wagered. The contest prizes are topped by an all-expense paid trip for two to the Super Bowl and also include other cash rewards.
We expect additional promotions and contests at Rivers’ online as well. One such contest likely will be the Jackpot Parlay. Participants in the Jackpot Parlay can earn more than $100,000 through a series of bets placed in a specific period.
The social media channels used by Rivers’ sportsbook are also likely to offer bonus awards and other promotions.
What type of wagers will be available?
We expect all the standard wagering options at Rivers, including:
- Side bets (moneyline, point spread)
- Over/under plays
- Future wagers
- In-game betting
Expect all these offerings on a multitude of sports from around the world.
Also, players can also expect to have a “cash-out” feature available with their wagers. This function, which is not yet widely available in sports betting, allows a player to abort a bet during the middle of a game and cash out for partial winnings.
