DraftKings has rolled out a new live-wagering feature for Major League Baseball bettors in Pennsylvania after receiving approval from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

DraftKings Sportsbook PA announced this week the launch of “Moonshot,” an interactive live product that allows bettors to build toward a target payout during a single plate appearance. The feature is available in Pennsylvania and other DraftKings markets.

While the product itself represents another step in the industry’s push toward more engaging in-play wagering, the launch also provides a look at how Pennsylvania regulators evaluate new Pennsylvania sportsbook offerings before they reach consumers.

PGCB reviews new sportsbook products before launch

According to PGCB Communications Director Doug Harbach, proposed sports wagering products undergo a multi-department review before operators can make them available to Pennsylvania bettors. Harbach explained to PlayPennsylvania:

“Proposed new products are reviewed by appropriate bureaus within the PGCB along with discussions with the operator who wishes to offer the product to the PA gaming public.

“In this case, the Bureaus of Gaming Operations, Sports Wagering, and iGaming all met with DraftKings and then were in a position to review and approved the product.”

Pennsylvania is one of the nation’s largest regulated sports wagering markets, and operators regularly seek approval for new wagering options, new formats and platform features as the market competes for customers.

Harbach’s comments provide a glimpse into a process that typically takes place behind the scenes before new products become available.

What is DraftKings Moonshot?

DraftKings describes Moonshot as a live-betting game that turns a single plate appearance into a progressive wagering experience.

During an at-bat, different outcomes are assigned multiplier values. Bettors select a target multiplier and attempt to reach that number before an out is recorded. If the target is reached, the wager cashes.

DraftKings Chief Product Officer Corey Gottlieb said the feature is designed to increase engagement during live MLB games:

“DraftKings continues to lead the way in live betting by delivering innovative ways for fans to engage with the game as it happens.

“Moonshot adds to the excitement of betting on a live MLB game, bringing a fun multiplier mechanic to the action. We’re always looking for ways to make live sports more engaging for our customers.”

Live wagering remains a major focus for operators

The Moonshot launch aligns with DraftKings’ broader strategy of expanding its live-betting portfolio.

Company executives have repeatedly identified in-play wagering as a growth area for the business, with live bets accounting for more than half of DraftKings’ handle in recent years.

As operators continue introducing new formats, Pennsylvania regulators will remain responsible for determining whether those products comply with state gaming regulations before they reach bettors.

The approval of Moonshot demonstrates that process in action, with multiple PGCB bureaus participating in the review before DraftKings launched the feature to Pennsylvania customers.
