Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia opened applications for a free, six-week Table Games Dealer School, with the first session beginning earlier this week.

The program requires no college degree or prior gaming experience, opening the door to a gaming career for a broader pool of job-seekers, said Kevin O’Sullivan, VP of gaming operations at Live! Casino Philadelphia.

“We are proud to offer this free dealer training program to provide job-seekers 18 years of age and over with the education and skills needed to pursue a long-term, fun career in the gaming industry.

“Interested applicants do not need casino, gaming or dealer experience to apply to the school. The most important skills are a good attitude and the willingness to learn. Our team can teach you the rest!”

Other Pennsylvania retail casinos have run dealer schools over the years. Happy Valley Casino was the most recent property to offer a table games dealer school ahead of its April opening.

What the program covers

Classes teach blackjack and carnival games including Three Card Poker, Ultimate Texas Hold’em, and Mississippi Stud. Students choose between a morning session (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) or an evening session (6 p.m. to 10 p.m.), Monday through Friday.

Instruction is taught by licensed instructors and follows Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board regulations.

Coursework covers chip handling, card shuffling, money handling, game security, body mechanics and responsible gambling practices, giving students a full grounding in both the technical and customer-service sides of dealing.

Path to employment

Enrolled students receive a training kit that includes instruction manuals, generic chips and cards, layout felt, and other materials. Free parking and a complimentary meal are provided at each session.

Students who complete the course, pass written and oral tests, and clear a background check may audition for dealer positions at the property. The property notes that finishing the course does not guarantee a job offer.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old. The dealer school runs on an ongoing basis, with applications open now for future sessions beyond the current sessions. Interested candidates can apply at LiveCH.com/Careers or by emailing talentphilly@livech.com.

Live! Casino Philadelphia, located in South Philadelphia’s Stadium District, features roughly 2,000 slots and more than 130 table games, including a dedicated poker room, along with a FanDuel Sportsbook PA and Lounge.

The property also houses several dining and entertainment venues, including The Prime Rib steakhouse and Luk Fu by chef Jet Tila, and offers a Pennsylvania online casino through PlayLive.com.

With no tuition and no experience required, the school gives Philadelphia job-seekers a direct path into the region’s gaming industry.
