A Mississippi Stud player at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh closed out September with the hand most table players never see.
A royal flush. In spades.
It landed Wednesday and triggered the full progressive on the game, a $702,602 Rivers Casino Pittsburgh jackpot, according to the casino’s October news release.

That makes two big table game jackpots at the North Shore casino in a little more than two weeks. On Sept. 15, a Pai Gow Poker player was dealt a seven-card straight flush and won the Pai Gow Poker Progressive: $1,155,260, plus a $5,000 Fortune Bonus.
Add it up and the two games paid out $1,862,862 between the middle of the month and the last day of it.
How rare is a royal flush in Mississippi Stud?
Mississippi Stud plays out as a five-card poker hand from a standard 52-card deck: two cards for the player, three community cards. There are 2,598,960 possible five-card hands. Exactly four of them are royal flushes.
That works out to 1 in 649,740.
As in, a player could see a fresh five-card hand every minute, around the clock, and still expect to wait more than a year for one royal.
The Rivers Casino Pittsburgh Pai Gow jackpot starts over
The Pai Gow progressive had been building for months. When PlayPennsylvania looked at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s September promotions, the meter was sitting at $1.1 million.
It paid out less than two weeks later.
Now it’s back down to $272,717.65, per the casino, and climbing again.
For context, September’s hit fell about $237,000 short of the property record. In January 2024, a Rivers Pittsburgh player won $1,391,967 on the same progressive with a seven-card straight flush in clubs, CBS Pittsburgh reported at the time.
What’s next at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh in October?
Both jackpots hit during “Season of Winning,” the casino’s monthly promotion that started in September. It carries into October with $5,000 Cash Kickoff Tier Drawings on Saturday and weekly table game drawings on Thursdays and Fridays.
The meters reset. The math doesn’t.
The next royal flush at a Mississippi Stud table is the same 1 in 649,740 it was before Wednesday’s hand.
