Pennsylvania sportsbooks set a July handle record with $509.5 million in wagers, up 23.5% from $412.5 million a year earlier.

The previous July high was $414.7 million in 2024, meaning this year’s total exceeded it by 22.9%. However, handle for the Pennsylvania sports betting market declined 10.6% from $570.3 million in June.

Sportsbooks generated $64.8 million in revenue before promotions, a 24.2% year-over-year increase. After deducting $12.9 million in promotional credits, operators finished with $51.8 million in taxable revenue, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB).

Taxable revenue increased 27.8% from July 2025 and 67.4% from $31 million in June. The sharp monthly increase came even as sportsbooks accepted $60.7 million less in wagers.

Sportsbook hold rebounds from June

Revenue before promotions represented a statewide hold of 12.7%, meaning sportsbooks retained that share of the amount wagered before accounting for promotional credits. That was nearly unchanged from the 12.6% recorded in July 2025.

The difference was much larger compared with June. After promotions, Pennsylvania sportsbooks recorded a taxable hold of 10.2% in July, nearly double June’s 5.4%.

The higher hold explains why taxable revenue increased sharply from June even though the total amount wagered declined.

FanDuel, DraftKings account for nearly two-thirds of wagers

FanDuel Sportsbook led Pennsylvania with $167.1 million in wagers across its online platform and retail operation at Valley Forge Casino Resort.

DraftKings Sportsbook followed closely with $166 million through its partnership with Hollywood Casino at the Meadows. Approximately $1.1 million separated the two operators, which collectively controlled 65.4% of the statewide market.

FanDuel’s narrow lead in wagers translated into a wider revenue advantage. The operator generated $21.1 million in taxable revenue, compared with $14.4 million for DraftKings.

That means FanDuel retained approximately 12.6% of its handle after promotions, while DraftKings retained 8.7%. The difference allowed FanDuel to generate approximately $6.8 million more in taxable revenue despite the two operators accepting almost the same amount in wagers.

Both market leaders also rebounded from June. FanDuel’s taxable revenue increased 77.4% from $11.9 million, while DraftKings’ total rose 86.2% from $7.7 million. Compared with July 2025, their revenue increased 36.6% and 27.6%, respectively.

BetMGM and bet365 post strong revenue growth

BetMGM Sportsbook ranked third with $36.7 million in wagers. Its taxable revenue reached approximately $4 million, an increase of 92.1% from $2.1 million in July 2025.

Fanatics followed closely with $35.8 million in handle and $3.1 million in taxable revenue through its partnership with Hollywood Casino York. Its revenue increased 16.4% from $2.7 million a year earlier.

bet365 Sportsbook completed the top five after accepting $32.5 million in wagers and generating $3 million in taxable revenue. Its revenue more than doubled from approximately $1.5 million in July 2025.

Online sportsbooks take nearly 96% of wagers

The PGCB’s detailed monthly report showed that online sportsbooks accepted $488.4 million, accounting for 95.8% of Pennsylvania’s handle. Retail sportsbooks took the remaining $21.1 million.

Online operators generated $62.5 million in revenue before promotions and $49.6 million in taxable revenue. Retail locations produced approximately $2.3 million.

Sports wagering generated approximately $18.7 million in state and local taxes during July, up 27.8% from $14.6 million during the same month last year.
