Harrah’s Philadelphia celebrated the 20th anniversary of harness racing at the track on Saturday night. The anniversary program came 20 years to the week of the track’s first-ever card, according to the report.
Harrah’s Philadelphia built the anniversary card around revived stakes races and a featured invitational pace to mark the celebrations. It served as both a milestone event for the track and a one-night revival of two recognizable stakes names in the Colonial Trot and Colonial Oaks.
The track was dark on Sunday, Sept. 13, and returned on Trottin’ Thursday, Sept. 17, with a 12:25 p.m. EDT post time.
Colonial Trot and Colonial Oaks Return for Anniversary Program
The revived Colonial Trot was won by Jim Beam in 1:53 2/5. Jim Marohn Jr. drove the winner for trainer Scott Di Domenico and owner Allen Wenc.
The Colonial Oaks was contested in two $30,000 divisions. Both winners went faster than the previous stakes mark of 1:53.
Little Road won one division in 1:52 1/5 by 5 1/2 lengths. My Philomene captured the other division in 1:52 4/5 by 3 1/4 lengths.
Christopher Dance N Takes Featured Invitational
Christopher Dance N won the $50,000 #Senditin Invitational pace at 13-1 in 1:48 2/5, finishing a half-length in front of Bourbon County.
Elsewhere on the card, Simon Allard led all drivers with three wins.
The night also included a note of historical symmetry for Ron Coyne Jr. He won a race with Benhope Rulz N and was also the driver who won the first race ever held at Harrah’s Philadelphia, behind Silver Flash.
