Less than a week after launching the online betting site Fox Bet, Mount Airy Casino opened its retail sportsbook on property.
The sportsbook began soft launch on Monday. After two days of testing, it went fully live on Wednesday in time for weekend football betting.
That is good timing given that Penn State plays Pittsburgh in the state’s biggest college football rivalry this weekend.
Fox Bet now has retail sportsbook home
Mount Airy Casino was the first Pennsylvania sports betting licensee to launch a PA online sportsbook without a retail counterpart open. Early on, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) was reticent to allow an online site to launch before a sportsbook on property. Now that online betting is up and running, there is seemingly less of a concern about what order things launch.
The retail book was not far behind its online counterpart though. With it comes a venue inside the former Gypsies Lounge space with 7,000 square feet for the sportsbook and the connected PokerStars-branded 12-table poker room.
Within the sportsbook, there are teller windows in addition to four self-service kiosks and, of course, plenty of TVs to watch the action. Per the plans Mount Airy presented to PGCB, there will be plenty of FOX Bet branding on the property to promote the app in tandem with the physical sportsbook.

Now that testing is clear, there are no limited hours of operation at the sportsbook. Those looking for a spot to watch the Thursday night NFL game can hang out in the book and bet until midnight. On Sunday, the sportsbook is open from 10 a.m. to midnight.
Keep in mind that just because you watch the game at the sportsbook doesn’t mean you have to wait in line. If you haven’t tried out a betting kiosk, these are great ways to get familiar with betting vernacular and basic bets. Going straight to the counter can be intimidating.

Mount Airy Sportsbook is still going to be a fun place to watch the action, especially with its integration next to the poker room. You can watch, bet, and play some cards all at the same time. Now if only PokerStars would launch PA online poker, so you had the option to play that on your phone as well.
