Operator now has online casinos in three North American jurisdictions

Bet365 has had its sights set on Pennsylvania since January 2023, when it partnered with Churchill Downs and Presque Isle Downs and Casino to replace Twinspires.

Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Director of Communications, Doug Harbach told PlayPennsylvania bet365 has been “given full approval for 24/7 operation” by the PGCB.

A representative with the operator did not respond to a request for comment about entering the key Pennsylvania market.

Pennsylvania is the third North American jurisdiction where bet365 has launched an online casino.

The operator has been live in neighboring New Jersey since 2019.

In Ontario, bet365 operates one of the top iGaming platforms in a market featuring 50 operators offering 80 gambling sites. The company launched in Ontario when the market opened in April of 2024.

But the PA online casino sector may be the most important of all.

The state is the leading online casino market in North America and set a U.S. iGaming revenue record in 2023 of $2.1 billion.

Despite launching late into Pennsylvania, which opened its online casino market in July of 2019, bet365 comes to the Commonwealth with a long and successful resume in Europe.

Privately-owned operator has over 25% of the UK sports betting market

Bet365 traces its origins to 1974 when founder Peter Coates opened up a betting operations at the horse races in Stoke-on-Trent, England. In 1995, Coates handed the privately-owned company to his daughter, Denise Coates. Five years later, she launched the online sports betting division and hired a team of traders and analysts to run its key operations.

Today, gambling operator  is said to control over a quarter of the British sports betting market and has over 90 million customers worldwide. The company is still privately-owned and Denise still remains as its CEO.

And sports betting remains at the heart of the company’s expertise.

Bet365 now offers sports betting in 11 states

Pennsylvania is the 11th state where bet365 offers legal online sports betting. It is fourth state where the company has launched in the last seven months, following Indiana, North Carolina and Louisiana.

The bet365 sportsbook is also legal in: New Jersey, Colorado, Virginia, Iowa, Kentucky and Arizona.

What we can expect from bet365 as a latecomer to Pennsylvania

PlayPennsylvania predicts bet365 will initially have an uphill battle to gain market share in an ultra-competitive PA market.

But, the strength of the brand, its world-renowned product and a generous welcome offer should have bet365 competing well in the second-tier of Pennsylvania operators before too long.

Yet, overtaking perennial leaders FanDuel and DraftKings will be a tall order.
