PA Poker August Events Feature $1 Million PokerStars Series

The summer might be winding down, but the action is still hot in the Pennsylvania poker scene. The state will see PokerStars return with a live series this month, along with offering the largest bad beat jackpot in the nation.

Live! Casino Philadelphia hosts PokerStars live series

Recently, PokerStars PA announced it would be returning to the Live! Casino Philadelphia Poker Room. Running from Aug. 24 to Sept. 10, the PokerStars Summer Series guarantees a $1 million prize pool. There will be three separate tournaments, all with a different buy-in amount. According to the site, players can also win their seat online directly into the event via satellites through PokerStars.

“We are thrilled to welcome PokerStars to Live! Casino and Hotel Philadelphia and host the inaugural Summer Series,” said Anne Tran, Director of Poker Operations for Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia, in a press release. “With a guaranteed $1 million prize pool and three different buy-in levels, the Summer Series is sure to bring players in from all over the country and we look forward to hosting them at our world-class property.”

Weekend 1 (Aug. 24-27): $550 buy-in – $200,000 guarantee
Weekend 2 (Aug. 31 – Sept. 4): $1,100 buy-in – $300,000 guarantee
Weekend 3 (Sept. 7-10): $2,200 buy-in – $500,000 guarantee

Every day in August, the poker room will hold a tournament, and among the weekly events are:

Mondays: $120 NLH Bounty Fat Stacks 11:15 a.m. – $4,000 guarantee
Tuesdays: $120 NLH Fat Stacks – 6:15 p.m. – $4,000 guarantee
Wednesdays: $140 NLH Quadstacks – 11:15 a.m. – $3,000 guarantee
Thursdays: $140 NLH Quadstacks 11:15 a.m. – $3,000 guarantee
Fridays: $300 NLH Bounty – 11:15 a.m. – $10,000 guarantee
Saturdays: Varying tournaments each week
Sundays: $130 NLH Triple Stacks Turbo – 6:15 p.m.

PokerStars Ambassador, Jennifer Shahade, said in the press release, “I am super excited about PokerStars Summer Series in my hometown of Philadelphia. In July, Mark “Butter” Olivio of Delran, NJ, took home $35,000 in the Live! 500 Megastacks. He outlasted a field of 664 players to take home a victory.

“I’ve been working hard on my game, so it felt good to take down my first W,” said Olivio.

Rivers Philadelphia runs daily poker events

August is filled with daily poker tournaments at Rivers Philadelphia, along with daily high hand cash games. No major events have been planned so far or announced for August. The daily schedule is as follows:

Mondays: $160 NLH Bounty – 7:15 p.m. – $4,000 guarantee
Tuesdays: $70 NLH – 6:15 p.m. – beginners tournament
Wednesdays: $130 NLH – 6:15 p.m. – $5,000 guarantee
Saturdays: $70 NLH – 10:15 a.m. – beginners tournament
Sundays: $160 NLH – 11:15 a.m. – $5,000 guarantee

In July, River’s ran their Mega Rush. The event drew in 531 players and a prize pool of $256,000. The top prize in the tournament was $50,000.

Rivers Pittsburgh bad beat jackpot remains largest in US

Multiple daily one-day tournaments will be run in August at Rivers Pittsburgh. Here is a look at some upcoming poker tournaments:

$160 NLH Tournament – 12 p.m. – every Friday in August
$160 NLH 2x Green Chip Bounty – 4 p.m. – every Wednesday in August
$500 NLH Deepstack Tournament – 11 a.m. – Saturday, Aug. 12

Multi-day action at Live! Casino Pittsburgh Poker Room

The Live! Casino Pittsburgh Poker Room will host a $50,000 guaranteed multi-flight event starting Aug. 23 through Aug. 27. Players will have five flights to pick from and can buy-in for $300. Day two will finish on Sunday, Aug. 27.

On days that there isn’t a multi-day flight happening, the following daily events will be in play:

Mondays: no regular daily event

August Survivor Series at Borgata

If players are looking for tournaments, the Borgata is the only spot in New Jersey. The poker room will have daily events Monday through Friday. The casino will also continue to host a Survivor Series again in August.

The Survivor Event Series will run Aug. 21-25. The week-long series includes six different survivor style tournaments. This will include buy-ins ranging from $125 – $450.
