For the first time ever, betting on the Olympics is available outside of Nevada. There will be plenty to wager on at Pennsylvania sports betting apps and lots of anticipation. The Tokyo Olympics features 33 different sports and will hand out medals for 339 events.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics were postponed due to COVID and are scheduled to finally start on Friday, July 23. According to a recent poll, people are most interested in watching gymnastics than any of the other Summer Olympic sports. It’s not surprising that 62% of respondents said they were “somewhat or very interested.” The biggest star representing the Team USA in Tokyo is gymnast Simone Biles.
Biles digs for more gold
The 24-year-old Biles already is “golden” and has made her case for “G.O.A.T” status in gymnastics. She is the most decorated gymnast (man or woman) in World Championship history with 25 World medal championships (19 gold). At the Rio Games she won four gold medals and a bronze and expected to add more medals and excitement to her legacy in Tokyo.
“I’m trying to be better than I was at the last meet, so I’m trying to beat myself,” Biles told NBC television. “And so now I’m doing things that were unimaginable to the sport, and even for myself, and it’s honestly crazy but I’m really excited because I feel like I’ve pushed my limits.”
She definitely has pushed the limits of gymnastics.
In 2019, Simone Biles became the first woman gymnast to land a triple-double in her floor routine. One hour later she did a double-double beam dismount. Both moves are now named after her.
She continued to push the limits in 2020 when she became the first female gymnast to land a Yurchenko Double Pike.
