Penn National outbid four other contenders to secure the first of what will eventually be five mini-casino licenses. The privilege came with a hefty price tag of $50 million. Securing the license through Mountainview Thoroughbred Racing Association, Penn National chose Yoe in York County as the epicenter for its site. It is notable that the location is just 50 miles south of Hollywood Casino. There was speculation that the location was selected to provide some protection for Hollywood Casino from other mini-casinos. When it came time to pinpoint an exact location, Penn National filed the official paperwork on Sept. 12 with the PGCB divulging the former Sears store in the York Galleria mall as the site of its new mini-casino.
