Pennsylvania casinos do a great job of giving back to the community. As the holiday season approaches, Live! Casino Philadelphia and Pittsburgh each are helping their own staff and community over the Thanksgiving weekend.
The Cordish Companies, which owns both locations, has a strong reputation for enhancing the communities it serves.
Live! Casino locations help families during Thanksgiving
David Cordish, Chairman of The Cordish Companies, is known for roaming around Live! casinos and handing out $100 bills to random customers. That is the kind of culture The Cordish Companies has built within its Live! Casino product.
Live! Casino Philadelphia distributed 300 turkeys to staff and families across South Philadelphia earlier this week. Philadelphia City Councilmembers Kenyatta Johnson and Mark Squilla were also on hand to help Live! Philly staff. Johnson told CBS News:
“We’ve seen an uptick in the amount of calls that we’ve been receiving as it relates to individuals asking for turkeys, and so we see that there’s a need out there when it comes to addressing the issue of food insecurity.”
In addition to the 300 turkeys, Live! Casino Philadelphia delivered another 60 to a senior citizens’ home in nearby South Philadelphia.
Live! Casino Pittsburgh also joined in on the community affair. The casino packaged Thanksgiving bags for active-duty military members last week. The packages were filled with food, personal care items and more.
The Cordish Companies and Live! Casino Philadelphia’s big donation in 2023
Handing out $100 bills to random customers is a small gesture compared to the larger ones The Cordish Companies has made throughout the years.
Earlier this year, to celebrate Live! Casino Philadelphia’s two-year anniversary, The Cordish Companies donated $750,000 to Rebuild Philadelphia, an organization that invests in improving Philadelphia neighborhoods.
The kids of Murphy Recreation Center directly benefited from the donation, getting a brand new turf field for softball, baseball, football and soccer. The basketball court also received improvements including a state-of-the-art LED lighting system.
Jon Cordish, Principle of The Cordish Companies, told PlayPennsylvania back in February:
“It speaks to our core family and corporate values which are one in the same. It’s one of the things that’s central to being a family-owned business. We’ve been in this for multi-generational time periods and to build projects that are going to last, you have to make them win-win for the communities around you. You’ve got to give back and do things the right way. To us, it was a no-brainer to celebrate this milestone.”
As of February, Live! Casino Philadelphia donated more than $2.3 million in cash and in-kind support to various charities since opening.
