If you’re an online slot player who loves lobster and you’re also fond of fishing, Lucky Larry has an offer you can’t refuse. He’s inviting you to join him playing Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2.
More than just a virtual fishing expedition, if luck is on your side, the action-packed adventure you’re about to embark on could have you laughing all the way to the bank. There are multiple ways to net a big stack of cash in both the base game and the bonus games, including three jackpots. You might even hit the Mother Lode!
But even if you don’t come away from the experience with a boatload of cash, you will have had a ton of fun trying.
Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2 basics
Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2 is an online video slot by IGT consisting of five reels, 4 rows (rather than the usual 3), and 40 fixed paylines. It is the sequel to the original Lobstermania slot, which many land-based casinos offer.
The alliterative title is quite a mouthful and almost as much of a tongue-twister as “She sells seashells by the seashore.”
The game itself has a nautical theme, and IGT, like in so many other online slots, has done a great job conveying the mood. Clear blue waters and a lighthouse off to the left provide the picturesque background that’s the setting for the large and colorful symbols on the reels. The higher-paying symbols and special bonus features are all fishing-related. The accompanying upbeat music is a tad loud but not distracting and fits in well with the overall ambience.
Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2 is probably a good choice for slot players with a sense of adventure and willingness to take risks for the chance of a big reward. It comes with no shortage of bells and whistles, including highly interactive bonus rounds.
So if you’re looking for a slot that’s different, exciting, and FUN, this is it. However, if you’re the type of player who prefers slots that are less intricate and more suited to casual players wanting great bang for their buck, Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2 might not be the right game for you. IGT and other top manufacturers make many other slots that stick more to the basics.
Is Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2 calling your name?
Lobster is a high-priced, fancy treat that you might like to indulge in occasionally but hardly every day. The same is true of the online slot game called Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2. Unless you are a high roller, the cost of play on a day-to-day basis can get prohibitive, especially if you don’t have good luck from the get-go.
Another way in which Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania is a lot like lobster itself is that it is never boring. Just as there are a great variety of irresistibly appealing ways to serve lobster, the slot game Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2 is anything but simple and straightforward. It is packed with so many different symbols and special features, trying to keep track of them all could be an exercise in futility.
Fortunately, you don’t need to–just spin the reels and keep your fingers crossed that you trigger a generous helping of stacked wilds, free spins, multipliers, and bonuses, so you can reel in a lot of loot.
This slot is best suited for players who will be more than happy to have the opportunity to scoop up big wins occasionally rather than small wins frequently.
Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2 RTP and volatility
Even before you start playing, you have a good clue that this slot is more about giving you longshot opportunities to win a lot of money, which might never materialize, than maximizing bankroll preservation via frequent small payouts.
The published return to player (RTP) for this game is only 92.84% to 96.52%, for an average of 94.14%. This is lower than what you will find for many other Pennsylvania online slot machine games.
Compounding the problem is the medium high volatility associated with this slot. This means that you should brace yourself for some choppy waters and huge bankroll swings.
You can still win playing this slot, but you can’t count on it happening sooner rather than later. Many spins in a row might come up empty or only return a fraction of your bet size before you finally get a big payout. And if your bet size to bankroll ratio is inadequate, tapping out before you ever get the chance to recoup is a real possibility.
Conversely, if you’re lucky enough to score a big win, regardless of whether it is early in your playing session or late, probably the smartest thing to do would be to lock in your winnings immediately and call it a day. If you keep on playing, you run the risk of having the tide turn against you and giving all of that money back.
Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2 bet size
Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2 can be played either online or enjoy gaming on iOS or Android mobile devices either in demo mode or for real money. Either way, all 40 paylines remain in play at all times.
The game is set with a default bet of 60 coins. However, you can vary your bet by adjusting the coin size up or down. When playing for real money, the minimum coin size is 1 cent while the maximum is $10.00. This makes the minimum cost per spin 60 cents and the maximum $600.
If you choose to play in demo mode, the minimum bet might be different. In the casinos where I played in demo mode, the minimum bet was not 60 cents but $60 (which is woefully inadequate for a hypothetical starting bankroll of only $1,000).
Another thing I don’t understand is that this slot contains 40 paylines rather than 60. Yet the line bet is the same as the coin size. So I’m wondering what happens with the other 20 coins each bet costs you.
Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania Symbols
Be prepared to see a lot of different symbols on the reels. There are 10 regular symbols, two wild symbols, and a bonus scatter symbol.
The two highest paying regular symbols are a buoy and a fishing boat. Either one pays 400 coins for five across a payline. Next in order of value are the lighthouse and boathouse. Five matching symbols of either of those across a payline will return 300 coins. Rounding out the regular symbols at the low end are the playing cards 8 through K.
Winning combinations are formed in the usual manner. You need at least three matching symbols to line up adjacently on consecutive reels starting with reel 1. However, the payout for three of a kind is tiny–only a small fraction of your bet size.
You can’t count on the regular symbols alone to stay afloat in this game. But fortunately, there are multiple special symbols to save the day.
The second “s” is not a typo. Most slots have one wild symbol, but in this game, lucky you gets to play with three wild symbols.
Two of the wild symbols look similar, as both contain the Lobstermania 2 logo. But one has an orange background, and the other has a blue background. Either symbol can be stacked.
The wild symbol with the orange background is the more valuable of the two. It is capable of substituting for any other symbol except the bonus symbol to help form or add to winning combinations. The wild symbol with the blue background, on the other hand, can substitute for all other symbols except the bonus symbol and the wild symbol with the orange background.
In addition, when either of these wild symbols form a winning combination by themselves, they are the game’s highest paying symbol. Five wild symbols with an orange background across a payline will pay out a whopping 8,000 coins, while five wild symbols with a blue background across a payline will return a still very satisfying 1,000 coins. The payout for four in a row of either symbol is 200 coins, and for three in a row, it is 50 coins.
The third type of symbol with wild potential is any symbol except the bonus symbol with the word “Jackpot” above it. This symbol can only appear in the base game. If three or more of them appear simultaneously anywhere on the reels, they substitute for their respective symbols and as such may create additional winning combinations. If three or more symbols with the word “Jackpot” appear consecutively across the payline, you also win a jackpot (see below).
Bonus scatter symbol
The bonus symbol is Lucky Larry himself with outstretched arms that look like lobster claws and the words “Lobstermania 2.”
Three, four, or five bonus symbols anywhere on the reels will award you immediately with 40x to 95x the coin value of the triggering spin. You also trigger the bonus pick where you get to choose between two extremely lucrative bonus features (see below).
Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2 slot game special features
Lucky Larry will try his darnedest to make your fishing expedition profitable, but he can’t guarantee it. What he can guarantee is that with the myriad of special features you might encounter on the way, there’s never a dull moment.
If three or more jackpot symbols appear on consecutive reels, in addition to any payouts you may receive from their role as wild symbols, you win a jackpot.
- 3 symbols award a Light Trap: 2,500 coins.
- 4 symbols award a Full Trap: 10,000 coins
- 5 symbols award the Mother Lode: 50,000 coins.
The coin size is the same as your line bet (your total bet divided by 60). The jackpot feature can only occur during the base game.
On any spin in the base game, a 5x multiplier can appear over a Buoy, Boat, Lighthouse, or Boathouse symbol. Or a 3x multiplier can appear over a Buoy, Boat or Lighthouse .
However, the multiplier symbol can only appear on reel 3. The multiplier is applied to your line winnings for the applicable spin.
Free spins bonus
If you’re lucky enough to have three or more bonus scatter symbols land simultaneously, you trigger the bonus pick. If you choose the free spins bonus, you will be awarded five free spins on “extra rich reels.”
Even though the free spins don’t offer a jackpot, stacked wilds galore compensate nicely and can contribute to mega-size wins. Playing in demo mode at a hypothetical $60/per spin, I won $4,590.
But you can do even better because the five free spins can be retriggered multiple times (for up to 240 free spins) if three or more bonus symbols land simultaneously again.
Lucky Larry’s buoy bonus 2
Alternatively, you can choose Lucky Larry’s Buoy Bonus 2. But before the fun begins, you need to make another tough choice: the location where you want your search for the Golden Lobster and other lucrative rewards to take place: Australia, Brazil, or Maine.
After you decide, you get to pick 2-4 buoys. Each buoy contains 2-4 lobsters that could award either anywhere from 10x to 575x the coin value of the triggering spin or the Golden Lobster.
If you pick the Golden Lobster, depending on whether you’re in Australia, Brazil, or Maine, you then move on to the Kangaroo, Octopus, or Pelican bonus round, respectively.
Each of these extra bonuses works somewhat differently, but what they all have in common is that your massive wins continue in a second pick’em game. You might even snag another Golden Lobster worth either 200 or 625 coins!
I chose Lucky Larry’s Buoy Bonus 2 with Australia as my location in another playing session in demo mode at $60 per spin. After triggering the Kangaroo bonus as well, the two bonuses combined produced a total win of $3,388 (less the $425 I was down before in the base game).
The bottom line
I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention that in one of my three playing sessions in demo mode, I tapped out.
However, whatever the outcome, Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2 offers nonstop fun and excitement, and if luck is on your side, your winnings can be huge.
