Slots have become more important to Pennsylvania online casinos than ever, as their revenue soars to record highs. Although they make up most of the revenue for any casino—online or brick-and-mortar—they’ve accounted for more than 80% of Pennsylvania iGaming revenue for the past two months, the first time in state history.

There’s no disputing the popularity of online slots at any time of year. However, fall is typically a time when operators see sports bettors crossover into the online casino. Those players’ tastes differ from traditional casino gamblers and tend to prefer games with a bit of skill, like blackjack.

Because of that, Pennsylvania online casinos tend to see the highest share of revenue from slots in the summer, while table games catch up in the fall. Not this year. This time, slots have maintained their dominance.

Slots are getting even more play throughout the fall

It’s no secret that slot games account for the majority of the state’s online casino revenue. However, it did set a record in September when it represented 80.4% of iGaming revenue in. In October, slot titles remained above the threshold at 80.3%.

October was a record-breaking month for operators, who generated $245.2 million in earnings. Slots continued to impress even in the middle of the fall months.

That has not always been the case in recent years. Slot percentage has decreased in the fall over the last two years. It has not happened so far in 2024. Here are some numbers:

Month202220232024
July78.4%75.8%77.3%
August76.1%76.9%79.8%
September75.0%76.1%80.4%
October74.8%76.0%80.3%

Slots are getting played more than ever before, as you can see in the above table. Those titles nearly crossed the $200 million mark itself, producing $197 million in October earnings.

Online casino don’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon in Pennsylvania. It’ll be interesting to see what operators have in store for the final two months of 2024, especially in terms of slot revenue.

How operators are keeping slot libraries fresh

Keeping slot libraries up-to-date is a main priority for the iGaming operators.

There are multiple operators that offer at least 1,000 slots for players: BetRivers Casino PA, Borgata Casino PA, and DraftKings Casino PA are three examples.

Most operators, especially the top ones, supply a balanced amount of exclusive in-house titles and games from manufacturing companies.

For example, BetMGM started releasing games from well-known TV shows and movies, such as Wheel of Fortune and The Godfather slots. It also has a Buffalo Wild Wings slot, with icons and logos from the popular food chain.

DraftKings offers exclusive slots with its own branding, such as DraftKings Digits and DraftKings Rocket. Those games can only be played on the DraftKings platform.

According to DraftKings, the company released 125 new slots in Pennsylvania in October and 44 in November.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) discloses November totals later this month. It’ll be interesting to see if slots continues to make up 80% of online casino revenue.
