DraftKings among top slots revenue drivers in PA

The Pennsylvania iGaming industry relies on slots to drive the majority of monthly revenue. With May’s contribution of $169.3 million in slot earnings, the vertical achieved $5 billion in lifetime revenue.

While table games and poker are an important component of online casino sites, PA slots are the most impactful to the state’s bottom-line, by far. So far in 2024, slot titles account for 76.7% of online casino revenue.

Many operators offer hundreds, if not thousands, of exciting slot titles that keep players coming back. Most add slots daily, including games from hit TV shows and movies that most people are already familiar with.

Slots are the biggest driver of online casino growth

Pennsylvania is the clear market leader among the seven states that provide legal online casinos. And, there’s no question that slot games drive the lion’s share of the revenue within the state. Online casino operators generated $216.5 million in earnings in May, which is the second-best month ever for the state.

Last month’s total brought the Keystone State up to nearly $6.9 billion in lifetime revenue and should easily surpass $7 billion in June. PA online casinos would not be successful without the evolution of slots, which now sits at $5.1 billion in lifetime revenue.

Other verticals, such as live dealer games and poker, have certainly helped grow the market. However, slots make up 74.7% of all online casino revenue.

Long gone are the days where iGaming operators offer just dozens of slots to players. Now, platforms provide hundreds, if not thousands, of titles. The latest example includes Mohegan Pennsylvania, which launched with 432 titles in April.

DraftKings Casino and Borgata Casino each supply at least 2,000 slots for players. Here are the top five online casinos by slot counts:

  1. DraftKings: 2,490
  2. Borgata: 2,019
  3. BetRivers: 1,050
  4. PlaySugarHouse: 1,050
  5. Golden Nugget: 990

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) does not break down revenue by operator. So it’s difficult to see the exact revenue breakdowns. However, each of these five casinos are considered some of the strongest in the Keystone State.

The EKG Line reported back in February that DraftKings recorded $59 million in February revenue, which was considered a record-breaking month.

Online casinos added nearly 4,000 slots since February

Since slots are the most popular vertical of gambling in Pennsylvania, operators have been sure to keep libraries fresh and updated. Back in February, PlayPennsylvania reported nearly 9,600 total slots across 20 platforms. That number has risen to nearly 13,500 slots in June.

It’s no surprise that DraftKings is as successful as it is. The operator offers a state-leading 2,490 slots, which is considerably up from the 817 in February. That is easily the biggest increase of any online casino in the Keystone State.

Just about every platform in the state has increased the amount of slots. Borgata and Golden Nugget added 297 and 246 slots, respectively, to their platforms. BetRivers and PlaySugarHouse each provided 213 more since February.

The addition in the slot offerings, without a doubt, helped increase the amount of online casino revenue generated over the last several months.

Platforms get creative with slot offerings

While online casinos can offer thousands of games, the right slots have to be available, too. The numbers are showing that operators are right on the money.

The amount of themes that game manufacturers provide is astronomical. Some of the most notable themes include sports, holidays, animals, tropical islands and famous TV shows and movies.

Most of the titles have state-of-the-art graphics that are colorful, exciting and move fast, just what the customer is looking for.

BetMGM took the first plunge in offering games that people are familiar with. It partnered with Inspired Entertainment in April 2023 to launch the Buffalo Wild Wings slot. Later, in 2023, it released slots around The Godfather and Wheel of Fortune. Most recently, it announced the debut of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Cheers.

BetMGM is the home for many slots featuring TV shows and movies, including:

  • Ted
  • Peaky Blinders
  • Cats
  • Beavis and Butt-Head
  • The Goonies
  • Hell’s Kitchen
  • Hercules

There are so many different options on online casinos, players should never get tired of the selection it has at its disposal. While slots continue to evolve in the Keystone State, operators are working twice as hard to make even better offerings in the months to come.
