Rocket Mortgage Classic betting preview PA

It’s going to be rough.

Literally.

The PGA Tour heads to the Detroit Golf Club for the Rocket Mortgage Classic this week, the fourth event since the tour resumed in mid-June. And after a -5 cutline at last year’s Rocket Mortgage Classic — the lowest one on tour since 2016 — tournament organizers are expected to grow the rough a little higher. As noted in this PGA Tour article, a longer rough will be one of the noteworthy features of this year’s event.

The tournament will also feature some of the PGA Tour’s big names, like Rickie Fowler, Bubba Watson, Bryson Dechambeau and Patrick Reed, among others. It will also boast a number of betting options and daily fantasy contests throughout the weekend. The action begins just after 6 a.m. Thursday.

Let’s take a look at some of the storylines and wagering options available at the top sports betting apps in PA.

Dechambeau is the betting favorite following recent hot streak

Dustin Johnson won the Traveler’s Championship last week after entering the tournament at +2200, but Bryson Dechambeau finished inside the top 10 for the third straight tournament (T6). That streak of strong play has Dechambeau as the favorite this week at +600, according to BetRivers/PlaySugarHouse.

Webb Simpson, who won the PGA’s second event this summer in Hilton Head, is the second favorite at +1000. Tyrrell Hatton is +1200, followed by Patrick Reed at +1400.

Pricing varies at DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel and Fox Bet, so players are wise to shop around for the best numbers. The rest of the top 20 and their odds at BetRivers/PlaySugarHouse are as follows:

  • Viktor Hovland: +1800
  • Hideki Matsuyama: +1800
  • Tony Finau: +2200
  • Sungjae Im: +2200
  • Rickie Fowler: +3000
  • Kevin Na: +3300
  • Scottie Scheffler: +3300
  • Bubba Watson: +3300
  • Lucas Glover: +4500
  • J.T. Poston: +4500
  • Doc Redman: +4500
  • Brandt Snedeker: +4500
  • Jason Day: +5000
  • Adam Hadwin: +5000
  • Kurt Kitayama: +5000
  • Rory Sabbatini: +5000

Odds on the entire field are available as well. Pricing is also posted for top 5, top 10 and even top 20 wagering at some PA sportsbooks. Players can also find group and matchup betting. And FanDuel is offering a lengthy list of tournament props, giving bettors a number of entry points into the PGA action.

DraftKings contest is poised to make another PGA millionaire

Daily fantasy players can also find a healthy assortment of PGA contests, including a $20 entry that offers a $2.5 million prize pool and a top payout of $1 million. FanDuel is featuring a $9 contest with a prize pool of $400,000 and a top payout of $100,000.

If you need to conduct a little research first, the PGA Tour has posted some power rankings for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. There are also previews available at DraftKings Playbook and CBS Sports.

Where to watch the Rocket Mortgage Classic

The action begins bright and early just after 6 a.m. on Thursday. Fans can follow the event online at PGA Tour Live. The Golf Channel will broadcast television coverage from 3-6 p.m. Thursday/Friday and 1-3 p.m. Saturday/Sunday. CBS will air the event from 3-6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

And after Nate Lashley‘s performance last year, when he captured the tournament with a remarkable -25 score, expect the course to play just a little bit tougher this year. Golfers should encounter a few more challenges.

And some spots will certainly be rough.
