Lovers of Italian cuisine have a new option available when visiting Rivers Casino Philadelphia. The new restaurant, Sapore, opened recently at the property, filling the spot formerly occupied by Martorano’s Prime.

Martorano’s opened in July 2023 but closed down this February, after less than two years in operation.

Rivers Casino Philadelphia offered the following statement to PlayPennsylvania‘s on the closing of Martorano’s Prime:

“Rivers Casino Philadelphia and Martorano Restaurant Group jointly decided to close Martorano’s Prime and Sicilian Slice at the Fishtown casino in early February.

“Martorano Restaurant Group will continue running Martorano’s Prime at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh and its flagship Cafe Martorano in Fort Lauderdale.”

Despite Martorano Prime’s shutdown, the Pennsylvania casino remains committed to offering an upscale Italian vibe with its replacement.

What’s on the Sapore menu

Visitors of Rivers Casino Philadelphia are still being treated to fine dining. Sapore has plenty of options of guests. Some of the dishes include:

  • Rigatoni alla vodka
  • Lasagna
  • Slow-simmered Bolognese

In addition to pastas, Sapore also offers steak and seafood. Filet mignon and New York strip are the restaurant’s signature steak options, while branzino is the go-to seafood dish.

The new restaurant also offers its creative chicken parm pizza. The cream puff tower with chocolate sauce and powdered sugar is Sapore’s best dessert.

Cocktails offerings and vibes

Sapore is described as a “supper club” for “classy-casual” date nights and celebration dinners. In addition to the food, the restaurant has a robust limoncello menu, featuring every  brand available from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.

It also offers drinks spanning from espresso martini to classic negronis, plus an Italian margarita with Aperol and more.

The restaurant can hold approximately 200 guests, with an additional 40-seat private dining room. There’s also a “chef’s room,” which is a table of 10 just outside the kitchen with a full view of the culinary action. Casino general manager, Susan Foster, said in a statement:

“Sapore is all about creating a familiar, cheerful atmosphere where people can enjoy delicious Italian food, wine and cocktails in great company. We want our guests to feel at home while indulging in a meal that’s both classic and comforting.”

The hours of the restaurant are Wednesday through Sunday from 5 to 10 p.m. Sapore also provides an on-the-go option, Sapore Slice, featuring brick oven pizza, in the Marketplace.
