The Powerball jackpot jumps once again for tonight’s Monday drawing. The Grand Prize is up to an estimated $56 million for July 11. The lump sum cash value of the prize is $31.8 million before taxes. That’s the amount a potential winner would get if they choose to take the prize all at once, in a single payment.
To get the full $56 million, the winner would have to choose the annuity option. With that, the prize is paid out in graduated annual payments over 29 years, beginning with one immediate payment. The cash value is invested for you and earns interest over those 29 years, resulting in the higher value over time.
Many lottery winners choose the cash option so they can invest and use the larger initial payment as they see fit.
