National lottery attention once again turns to Powerball tonight, where the current jackpot prize is estimated at $170 million. The lump sum cash value of tonight’s prize is $100.5 million before taxes.
Just one month has passed since the last Powerball jackpot was hit by a single ticket in Vermont. The $366 million jackpot hit on June 29 was the first Powerball jackpot to be won in that state. The June winner is yet to claim their prize.
The last Powerball jackpot to be hit in Pennsylvania was in 2018. The lucky PA winner raked in $273.9 million cash, before withholding.
Powerball drawings are now held three times per week, on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Do jackpot prizes ever go unclaimed?
It’s not unusual for a Powerball jackpot winner to take some time before claiming their prize. In some cases, winners form a trust to claim the prize which helps keep their identity obscured from the public. Winners usually hire legal and financial professionals to help manage their newfound wealth. It’s a process that can take some time and consideration.
In PA, winners have one year from the drawing date or the game sale end date (for scratch-offs) to claim their prize. The recent VT winner also has a year to claim their prize. However, some Powerball jackpot prizes have gone unclaimed over the years.
In 2011, the jackpot winner in Georgia failed to claim their $77 million prize from the June 29 drawing. Again in 2013, one of the three winners on May 25 never claimed their share of the $93.4 million cash jackpot.
