In less than a month since the last big jackpot win, the Powerball grand prize has rolled to an estimated $100 million for tonight’s drawing, Aug. 24. As always, the advertised jackpot reflects the estimated annuity value of the cash prize, which is $56.7 million, before withholding. A winner can choose to take the cash value in a single lump sum payment instead of the annuity, which is paid out in 30 graduated payments over 29 years.
The jackpot increased again, so as you might have guessed, there was no jackpot winner in the previous drawing on Monday. However, one lucky player in New York matched all but one number, winning the second-tier prize. That player’s ticket matched all five of the white balls, but not the red Powerball. That win is worth $1 million for the NY player.
