PokerStars has signed a sponsorship deal with the Philadelphia Flyers that will provide new marketing opportunities for the site and give Pennsylvania online poker and casino players a chance to win Flyers tickets and merchandise. It’s the first time an online poker brand has struck such a deal with the Flyers.
The deal includes PokerStars and PokerStars Casino, so every type of gambler can participate.
PokerStars players on either platform will have chances to win Flyers tickets and exclusive signed memorabilia through special poker tournaments. Rob Battista, PokerStars North America Senior Director of Commercial, said in a press release:
“We are thrilled to partner with such a beloved hockey team. Hockey fans are some of the most passionate in the world, and we can’t wait to collaborate with the team to bring exciting tournaments and rewards to our communities in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.”
What PokerStars gets from partnership
PokerStars players make out well from the deal, getting chances to win Flyers tickets and memorabilia. But what does the operator get?
Fans attending Flyers games are going to see PokerStars branding across the Wells Fargo Center. Those watching the game on TV are going to see the branding on NBC Sports Philadelphia.
Todd Glickman, Comcast Spectacor Chief Revenue Officer, said in a statement:
“We’re excited to welcome PokerStars to the Flyers family. Their dedication to innovation and giving epic rewards and experiences to their players aligns perfectly with our goals on engaging our fantastic community of fans.”
PokerStars has partnered with other sports franchises
This time last year, PokerStars partnered with Philadelphia 76ers, who also share the Wells Fargo Center with the Flyers. The agreement consisted of similar features, including game tickets, merchandise and in-game experiences.
It’s clear that PokerStars has become familiar with the sports world, including Philadelphia fans. PokerStars is currently partners with the Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors.
Flyers partner as PA is poised to join MSIGA
The Flyers certainly struck while the iron is hot. PlayPennsylvania reported last month that Gov. Josh Shapiro instructed the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) to begin negotiations to enter the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA).
Currently, PokerStars pools players from Michigan and New Jersey. Adding Pennsylvania players would be important for the operator, as well as the industry as a whole.
There’s no timeline for the Keystone State’s entrance. However, it should drive more excitement to poker because of the larger player pools and prize money.
It’ll also be interesting to see how the Flyers and PokerStars navigate the partnership once it happens.
