The Pittsburgh Steelers were unable to overcome a dynamic Cleveland rushing attack in a 29-17 loss to the Browns on Thursday Night Football.
The Steelers did not cover the spread as a 4.5-point underdog and the game went Over the total of 38.5.
Nick Chubb rushed 23 times for 113 yards and a touchdown as teammate Kareem Hunt compiled 47 yards on 12 carries.
Pittsburgh’s offense looked lifeless as Mitch Trubisky went 20-for-32 with a rushing touchdown. Najee Harris had 56 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. Diontae Johnson caught eight passes for 84 yards. It was a good day for betting the Over as all three players hit their Over prop for yards.
The Steelers fall to 1-2 and will host the New York Jets on Oct. 2 at 1 p.m.
Opening Week 4 betting lines have the Steelers as a 3.5-point favorite with the total points at 42.5 against the Jets at Pennsylvania sportsbooks.

New York Jets vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Week 4 betting insight
Max Schmerin, Sportsbook Manager at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh, said that 72% of the money and 71% of the tickets are the Steelers to cover the 3-point spread against the Jets.
“The Steelers hung in there [last week vs. Cleveland]. The end result looked a lot different on paper than how it was played on the field. People believe that it doesn’t matter if the Steelers are playing the Jaguars, the Jets or the Bills, they have a chance”, Schmerin said of the majority of the money still on the Steelers despite a 1-2 start. “This week, as a home favorite, our public is backing them pretty strong.”
Schmerin said 54% of the money but 67% of the tickets are on the over.
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cleveland Browns Week 3 betting recap
Facing a six-point deficit, the Steelers had one final play backed up in their own endzone with hopes of a miracle.
A bunch laterals resulted in a Browns defensive touchdown, and a 29-17 final score.
Max Schmerin, Sportsbook Manager at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh, felt the air come out of the sportsbook even though the original spread wasn’t affected.
“We had a ruckus crowd and a lot of unhappy people who had teasers and over/unders where that play had a lot of meaning,” Schmerin said. “You could hear a lot of the guests say, ‘I had them +7, I had them +10.’ Nineteen percent of the total tickets were effected by that play in our favor. It was a fairly large impacting play with a lot of unhappy guests that were either throwing their ticket on the ground or ripping it up.”
A lot of Chase Claypool prop bettors went home unhappy. Claypool was involved in the series of laterals on the last play of the game. Before that play, he had 41 yards. After the play, he finished with 35. Rivers Casino Pittsburgh had his prop total set at 36.5 and Schmerin said 79% of the money was on his Over.
