Philadelphia Phillies and Wheeler Are Favorites at PA Sportsbooks; Harper MVP Odds Move

Philadelphia Phillies NL East favorites.

What a difference a week makes. On August 1, the Philadelphia Phillies were in third place in the NL East, 4 1/2 games behind the New York Mets. Their odds to win the division was +450 and long odds of +2800 for the National League Pennant.

On August 8, after Zach Wheeler tossed a complete game shutout, the Phillies sit in first place in NL East and lead the Atlanta Braves by two games. The quick trip from four games out to first marks the first time a team has accomplished the feat in 105 years.

The Phillies are now +115 to win the NL East and +1000 to win the NL Pennant at Pennsylvania sports betting apps. Two of their players are also in the discussion to win awards, too.

Wheeler NL CY Young odds

At the All-Star break, New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom was the runaway favorite to win the NL Cy Young award. On July 2, his odds were -700. Phillies’ Zach Wheeler was at +2200 not so much due to his lack of dominance but because of deGrom’s otherworldly numbers. However, deGrom landed on the injured list with a forearm issue in mid July and is out until at least September. In 15 starts, he went 7-2 with a 1.08 ERA and a 13.27 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

With deGrom on the shelf, Wheeler has emerged as a favorite for the NL Cy Young.  In 23 starts, Wheeler leads the majors with 181 strikeouts and 156 innings pitched. His record is 10-6 with a 2.42 ERA. At the start of the season, Wheeler was +6000 to lead the league in strikeouts and +3300 to win the CY Young award.
