What does this mean for Eagles fans?
Eagles fans might not have to call the local radio stations to complain as much. Now, their voices can be heard….more. The voices of Eagles fans might have been ignored (cough* Justin Jefferson*). But never not heard.
Socios will partner with the Eagles to offer fan engagement polls generated by the official Eagles app and the Eagles Twitter. Howie Roseman probably won’t be listening to the fans’ draft expertise, but fans potentially can weigh in on music played at games, MVP of games and more. Make sure you have the Eagles official mobile app and check-in with the Eagles’ Twitter page.
Brian Napoli, Philadelphia Eagles Vice President of Corporate Partnerships, commented:
“Partnering with Socios.com will enable us to further connect with Eagles fans and shape how we engage with them around the world. Socios.com drives innovation and creativity in nearly every aspect of the fan experience. We look forward to working with them and exploring all the different ways in which we can bring Eagles fans closer to the team.”
Fan tokens coming soon?
Socios is considered the leading fan token firm in the crypto space. Socios has fan tokens in place for its soccer teams such as Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, and Manchester City F.C. The tokens are minted on a blockchain platform that can be traded on the market.
However, Socios’ deal with the Eagles and the 12 other NFL teams they signed last week have not come with fan tokens just yet because of the NFL’s restrictions on blockchain companies
Max Rabinovitch, chief strategy officer at Socios and parent company Chiliz, understands that the NFL is taking it slow. The partnership will be “more conventional brand affinity-type engagements” for now.
“I don’t necessarily blame the leagues for being very cautious in that approach, because it’s a sea change decision. It’s something wher once they say yes, they have to really be committed.”
The NFL is starting to ease restrictions, however, as the NFL Head of Consumer Products Joe Ruggiero told CNBC last month:
“We’re extremely bullish on blockchain technology. We think that it has a lot of potential to really shape innovation, shape fan engagement over the course of the coming decade.”
