In the last Mega Millions drawing on Friday, April 14, a ticket sold in New York won the soaring jackpot prize. Friday’s jackpot ended up larger than estimated because of high ticket sales. The New York player will have a choice between a $483 million annuity, or $256.9 million cash, before taxes.
This was the 13th-largest jackpot for Mega Millions since the game launched in 2002. So far in 2023, there have been five Mega Millions jackpots won. Four of them were hit in the month of January. The last two jackpot winners hit the prize exactly a week apart on Jan. 24 and Jan. 31. Both winners were in Massachusetts.
The jackpot now restarts at $20 million for the next drawing on Tuesday.

Recent Mega Millions drawings and winners
In last Tuesday’s drawing, one ticket sold in Florida hit a $3 million prize by matching all five white balls, with the Megaplier ticket option. The Megaplier is a $1 ticket add-on that multiplies all prizes other than the jackpot.
Two other tickets matched the first five without Megaplier, to win $1 million each. Those winning tickets were sold in Arizona and California.
Pennsylvania had a big winner in last Friday’s drawing. One ticket sold in Westmoreland County hit the second-tier prize of $1 million.
Remember that the first five numbers on your ticket are printed in sequential order. You can match those numbers in any order. The Mega Ball number is the only exception. That ball is drawn last, from a separate pool of 25 numbers, and must match your ticket’s last number.
