As the saying goes, you can’t win ‘em all. No one won any of the top prizes in Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing. The largest prize awarded was $30,000 to two players who matched four of five white balls and the gold Mega Ball, with the 3x Megaplier.

This sends the jackpot up a notch to $160 million, or $115.7 million with the lump sum cash option, for the Friday night Dec. 17 drawing.

Did you know?

Mega Millions and Powerball are nationwide draw games available in 45 states, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Each state determines how they will use their own lottery revenue because each participating state lottery manages the sales within that state.

PA is the only state that designates all proceeds towards programs that benefit the older population. In fact, the PA Lottery was established in 1971 for that specific purpose.

About 67% of PA’s lottery revenue goes toward winner prizes. The next biggest chunk, 23%, goes to the aforementioned benefit programs. And 8% goes to retailer and vendor commissions (the bonuses they receive when they sell winning tickets). Just 2% is needed for operating expenses to keep the rig rolling.

Funds raised in the 2019-2020 fiscal year amounted to $1.14 billion to benefit seniors in the Keystone state.
