PA Online Casino Revenue Exceeds $170 Million In May For Second-Best Month

PA online casinos topped $160 million again in May revenue.

As the sports calendar is winding down, Pennsylvania online casino revenue has not. In figures released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB), online casino operators recorded $170.4 million in May revenue. It’s the second-best online casino revenue total in the state’s history.

It’s the sixth straight month Pennsylvania has posted a revenue mark more than $160 million, and the second time in three months the state has exceeded $170 million.

PlayPennsylvania Managing Editor, Chris Imperiale, said:

“Pennsylvania online casinos totaled $170.4 million in gross revenue in May. This marks the sixth consecutive month with more than $160 million in earnings, reaffirming Pennsylvania’s position as the top market for online casinos within the US, beating out other notable states like Michigan and New Jersey. May finished about $11 million shy of the all-time revenue record, but increased figures almost 25% year over year. It’s possible that the slower sports betting period we’re currently in could drive even more online casino gaming and revenue going forward. Since October, Pennsylvania has broken the US online casino revenue record four times.”

Quick analysis from May PA online casino figures

  • To put the growth of online casino revenue into perspective, PA operators generated just $136.8 million in revenue last May, increasing earnings 24.6% this May.
  • Online casino revenue is much stronger than sports betting overall. In a down month for PA sportsbooks, online operators generated $14.8 million in taxes compared to online casinos’ $53.7 million. Online casinos are constantly churning around $50 million or more in taxes for the state each month.
  • Pennsylvania has solidified itself as the top online casino market in the country. The state has broken US iGaming records in four of the last eight months. In the other four months PA didn’t break a record, the revenue figure has hit the second-highest total.
