March Madness Betting Guide And Top Promos At PA Sportsbooks

March Madness officially gets underway on Thursday.

The next time you wake up, it’s officially March Madness. The conference tournaments and First Four are a great appetizer, but the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament are the main course.

Here you’ll find the latest information for all your March Madness betting odds and some of the best promos PA sportsbooks have to offer.

Teams to watch for in the NCAA Tournament

There are a bunch of teams coming into March Madness hot, while others are limping.

Penn State

Penn State solidified its spot in the NCAA Tournament by winning three games in the Big 10 tournament. It also went toe-to-toe with Purdue, which earned a top seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The Nittany Lions enter the event as a No. 10 seed and face No. 7 seed Texas A&M. They are a 3-point underdog at PA sportsbooks, with the game total set at 134.5.

After Penn State’s four-game losing streak in early February, it has rebounded to go 8-2 in its last 10 games. It beat the likes of Illinois (twice), Maryland and Indiana.

The Nittany Lions are led by second-team All-American Jalen Pickett. The standout guard averages 17.9 points per game and 6.7 assists.

Charleston

Charleston is the only team in the field that has two 10-game winning streaks to its name this season.

The Cougars ripped off 20 straight wins after starting the season 1-1. After a two-game losing streak in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play, Charleston enters the NCAA Tournament winners of 10 straight and a CAA crown.

The Cougars get balanced scoring with five players averaging double figures. They are a 5-point underdog against No. 5 seed San Diego State out of the Mountain West Conference.

Marquette

Shaka Smart is looking to recapture the magic he created at VCU and bring it over to Marquette. The Golden Eagles have won nine straight and dominated the Big East conference.

Marquette finished with a 17-3 record in the Big East and won the conference title by defeating St. John’s, Connecticut and Xavier.

The Golden Eagles are a No. 2 seed in the East region and play Vermont in the first round. PA sportsbooks have the Golden Eagles as a 10.5-point favorite.

Sophomore guard Kameron Jones leads Marquette in scoring, avering 15.0 points per game.

Memphis

Look out for Penny Hardway. Memphis has a real chance to bust some brackets. The Tigers finished the season 26-8 and just defeated Houston in the American Athletic Conference title game, 75-65. The week before, Memphis fell to Houston at home on a buzzer beater, 67-65.

Memphis is a No. 8 seed in the East region. It is a 2.5-point favorite against Florida Atlantic. A win would likely draw Purdue, the weakest one-seed in the tournament. Memphis has shown it can hang with Houston, it should give Purdue a run, providing it gets past the opening round.

The Tigers are extremely top heavy, with two players doing the bulk of the scoring. Senior point guard Kendric Davis is averaging 22.1 points per game. Fellow senior Deandre Williams is averaging 17.8 points per game and 8.0 rebounds.

PA teams playing in the 2023 NCAA Tournament

Penn State and Pittsburgh are the only two teams on the men’s side to represent the Keystone State in the NCAA Tournament. For the first time since 1977, no Philly-area schools made the Big Dance.

However, on the women’s side, Villanova has picked up the slack for Pennsylvania and Philadelphia. The Wildcats earned themselves a No. 4 seed in the Greenville 2 region.

Villanova is an 11.5-point favorite on DraftKings against 13-seed Cleveland State.

The Wildcats are led by star guard Maddy Siegrist, who’s broken numerous scoring records this season. The senior is averaging 28.9 points per game, which leads the nation by almost two points. She also scored a school-record 50 points in a game last month and became the Big East all-time leading scorer with 1,547 career points in conference play.

With scoring prowess such as Siegrists’, she’s racked up tons of accolades:

  • AP All-American
  • 2x Big East Player of the Year
  • 4x All-Big East
  • 2023 All-Big East Tournament Team

Villanova’s tournament fate rides in the hands of Siegrist.
