Business is booming in Pennsylvania. The Keystone State is the clear market leader when it comes to online casino revenue within the US. After August’s total of $171.9 million, Pennsylvania surpassed the $5 billion threshold for lifetime revenue.

Pennsylvania online casinos are constantly upgrading and adding new content, and customers are responding. It doesn’t appear the market will be slowing down anytime soon, either.

A near record-breaking August lifts PA online casinos over $5 billion in lifetime revenue

Pennsylvania has set the US online casino revenue record four times over the last 11 months, and almost did so again. August’s revenue total of $171.9 million came second to March’s figure of $181.5 million. It was the second-best month of all time for any state with legal online casinos.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) does not report revenue by operator. However, the Valley Forge Casino license, which partners with FanDuel Casino PA and StarDust, recorded $39.4 million in August revenue, the most it’s ever produced in Pennsylvania.

Hollywood Penn National, which partners with DraftKings Casino PA, BetMGM Casino PA, Barstool and PointsBet, generated $68.6 million in August revenue, which is actually the third-lowest total the license has posted in 2023.

Rivers Casino Philadelphia, made up of BetRivers Casino PA, Borgata Casino PA and Sugarhouse, compiled $33.8 million in revenue last month.

FanDuel Casino PA gains separation from Rivers Philadelphia

FanDuel likely makes up the majority of the revenue from the Valley Forge Casino license. Since the start of 2023, Valley Forge Casino has been neck and neck with Rivers Casino Philadelphia:

MonthValley Forge RevenueRivers Philadelphia Revenue
January$33,074,131$35,535,032
February$31,990,832$33,283,661
March$37,166,021$38,477,198
April$36,173,050$33,188,624
May$34,705,869$35,873,610
June$33,714,403$33,026,927
July$34,890,032$32,515,831
August$39,410,760$33,767,798
Total$281,125,097$275,668,681

The Valley Forge Casino license has made up a lot of ground on Rivers Philly. In August 2022, Rivers sat in the second position behind Hollywood Penn National, with Valley Forge far behind. August 2022 revenue totals finished:

  • Hollywood Penn National: $55.4 million
  • Rivers Casino Philadelphia: $33.5 million
  • Valley Forge Casino: $19 million

While Rivers Casino Philadelphia’s collection of casinos has remained relatively the same, it was only a matter of time before Valley Forge and FanDuel passed them.

What’s to come for Pennsylvania online casinos

As more PA online casinos are expected to launch in the near future, two operators are getting their feet wet in the market now.

Bally Casino PA launched in June and is off to a strong start so far in 2023. In its second full month of operation, Bally’s already brought in more revenue than Unibet and Wind Creek.

After launching in August, Golden Nugget Casino PA had a solid start, too. It recorded $2 million in slot revenue, more than Unibet and Wind Creek, but lost $351,097 in table games revenue.

With those two expected to grow over the next several months, even more operators are going to join the market. Fanatics, bet365 and PlayStar are all destined to launch casino platforms over the next six months or so.

It may not be long before Pennsylvania gets back to the $180 million threshold, and on its way to $10 billion in lifetime revenue — especially if operators’ PA online casino bonus offers continue to rank among the most lucrative in the US.
