On Friday, a Mega Millions ticket sold in Tennessee hit the $20 million jackpot. That makes two jackpot winners within a week, in two consecutive drawings. The TN player is the fourth person to win the Mega Millions Top Prize so far this year.
The last time Mega Millions had jackpot winners in two consecutive drawings was in July of 2016. Those two drawings actually produced three winners, because two players struck it lucky on July 22 and split the Grand Prize. In total, four players hit the jackpot in that month alone!
Good things come to those who wait
The jackpot hit earlier in the week was the first ever for the state of Minnesota. It was a big one, too. A lucky player snagged a $110 million payday by picking all the right numbers for Tuesday night’s drawing on April 12. Mega Millions launched in MN in 2010, when Powerball and Mega Millions reached an agreement that allowed states to sell both multi-state lottery games.
The big win on Friday marks the second Mega Millions jackpot ever to be hit in TN. That state hasn’t seen a Top Prize winner since 2014.
Before Tuesday, the Top Prize had been growing with each drawing for five weeks since the last big win on March 8. The jackpot resets to $20 million each time someone wins it.
When will the time come for another PA winner?
Back in our home state of Pennsylvania, the last top Mega Millions prize hit on May 21, 2021 by a pool of five players in Bucks County. That group split a prize of $516 million, which remains the ninth-highest Mega Millions prize ever won.
PA is one of the states in which you can buy both Mega Millions and Powerball tickets. Though similar, the games have some minor differences. Powerball has differentiated itself by adding a third weekly drawing. Powerball drawings take place every week on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
The Powerball jackpot is rising quickly, up to an estimated $348 million for the upcoming drawing on Monday. Catch the Mega Millions winning numbers every Tuesday and Friday.
PA residents are lucky to have online lottery
You can try your luck at either game in PA by buying tickets online using the PA Lottery’s iLottery website or mobile app. For higher odds of winning, try the PA Lottery draw games.
Restricted to PA residents, the draw games available online are Treasure Hunt, Cash4Life, PICK 2, PICK 3, PICK 4, PICK 5 and Match 6. Several of those were recently added to the online lottery menu.
From May 2018 through the end of March 2022, over $2.26 billion has been won through the PA Lottery. Last fiscal year (2020-21), the PA online lottery set a new record with nearly $772.2 million in prizes won through online drawings and games.
