iGaming Growth Drives Fiscal Year Record $2.54 Billion In PA Gaming Tax Revenue

PA gambling hits record heights for FY23-24 with help of iGaming revenue growth

With June’s $195.6 million in online casino revenue, Pennsylvania surpassed $7 billion in lifetime iGaming revenue. Through the first six months of 2024, PA iGaming sites have produced a nation-leading gross revenue (GGR) of over $1.26 billion.

Despite the continued strength of online casinos in PA, June marked the first time in five months that Pennsylvania did not exceed $200 million in iGaming GGR. However, it was the 10th straight month that the online vertical exceeded $186 million.

PlayPennsylvania Managing Editor Dave Briggs said:

“Pennsylvania continues to lead the nation in the iGaming vertical, outdoing itself year after year. It also happens to be the biggest driver of net revenue growth for the PA gambling industry year-over-year.

The state’s online casino sites set a fiscal year record in 2023/2024 with $2.36 billion in gross gaming revenue. That represents a 25.9% YoY increase in iGaming GGR and also translated into $836.8 million in tax revenue for state and local entities.”

PA gambling revenue highlights from FY 2023/2024

Pennsylvania’s gambling industry brought in a state-record $2.54 billion in taxes during FY 2023/24, according to figures released by the PGCB on Thursday. The PGCB reported total AGR from all legal gaming sources of $5.89 billion for the fiscal year. The previous fiscal year record for total PA gaming revenue was $5.5 billion in 2022/2023.

Breakdown of PA online casino June 2024 revenues

PA iGaming revenue in June was down 9.7% from May, when the state had its second-best month ever with $216.5 million GGR. That was bested only by March, when PA iGaming produced $233.1 million GGR.

PA iGaming sites are the largest driver of net gaming revenue growth YoY in the Keystone State.

Despite some ebbs and flows, the iGaming vertical remains a critical and consistent source of PA gaming revenue and tax revenue for the state. Total PA iGaming GGR in June 2024 was up a whopping 19.0% YoY compared with June 2023. That represents an increase of $31.3 million, the majority of the increase coming from online slots.

Retail slots revenue, while flat YoY, continue to be the main source of gaming tax revenue in Pennsylvania, followed by iGaming sites.

The state’s retail casino slots made up over half of PA’s gaming tax revenue in the month of June, bringing $101.6 million. the online casino vertical drove 36.2% of the month’s tax revenue dollars with its total of $71.7 million.

PA iGaming sites have already produced $1.26 billion in GGR through the first half of 2024.

The top 3 iGaming licensees in PA continued to dominate, representing over 80% of market share in June.

  • Hollywood Penn National: $72.6 million
  • Valley Forge: $46.3 million
  • Rivers Philadelphia: $37.0 million

The next closest operator in June was Harrah’s Philadelphia with $10.0 million.

Hollywood has the most iCasino skins with Hollywood, DraftKings, Fanatics, ESPN Bet and BetMGM casino and poker. Rivers combines revenue from BetRivers, SugarHouse, and Borgata casino and poker. Valley Forge has FanDuel and Stardust internet casino skins.
