Keystone State gamblers can now embrace an electric opportunity.

They are among the first players cleared to play Electric Poker, which made its Pennsylvania debut under the DraftKings PA Casino banner this week.

Pennsylvania joins Michigan as the first two states to offer this unique game. It features real players in a fast-paced, three-handed, no-limit Texas Hold ’em poker tournament.

Electric Poker basics

Electric Poker is a tournament-style poker challenge with a modern look and exciting graphics. It takes traditional poker to a new level of competitive play.

Eligible gamblers who register to play will be quickly matched with other poker players in a game that allows customers to pick from different buy-in levels, ranging from $1.00 to $25.00, and includes prize multipliers up to 10,000x.

Two significant concepts are reflected in this rollout.

The first is the popularity of electronic table games at brick-and-mortar casinos over the past couple of decades. Customers learned to play real games without a live dealer.

Second, DraftKings has put its own twist on a popular attraction. More than half the World Series of Poker events have variants of Texas Hold’Em.

The DraftKings Electric Poker version has a randomly generated prize pool based on the prize multiplier, blind levels that are two minutes, a special electric mode feature, and more.

An Overview of How Electric Poker Works

According to the DraftKings website:

Electric Poker is a Hyper Turbo, 3-handed no-limit Texas Hold’em poker tournament played with one  standard deck of 52 cards. The prize pool for the tournament will be determined based on a random draw before the start of each tournament and can be from 2x to 10,000x your buy-in (“Prize Pool Multipliers”).

For example, a $5 Electric Poker tournament can pay out up to $50,000. That’s in the event the 10,000x Prize Pool Multiplier is drawn. The Prize Pool Multiplier determines the number of blind levels in each tournament. Blind levels are two minutes long. Prize Pool Multipliers of 2x-5x will have three blind levels before the Electric Mode (All In moment) activates. A 10x Prize Pool Multiplier will have four (4) blind levels before the Electric Mode (All In moment) activates.

The in-house built poker game has received strong customer reviews since its August launch in Michigan. That led to the expansion into the Pennsylvania online casino market.

“Electric Poker is one of many innovative games on DraftKings Casino, which houses exclusive products that players can’t get anywhere else,” said Jason March, Vice President of iGaming Marketing and Operations at DraftKings. “After positive feedback from our players in Michigan, we are thrilled to expand our Electric Poker offerings to our customers in Pennsylvania, delivering them a best-in-class online poker experience.”

Expanding the PA online poker market

Electric Poker adds to the PA online poker market that currently consists of the following traditional online poker platforms:

  • PokerStars
  • BetMGM
  • WSOP
  • Borgata
  • BetRivers Poker

The launch of this new take on online poker comes as Pennsylvania prepares to enter the Multistate Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA). Joining the MSIGA would substantially increase the player and prize pools of online tournaments. Though a timeline hasn’t yet been provided, the Pennslyvania Gaming Control Board has the green light to make the necessary arrangements.

With these new additions to the PA online poker community, it’s an exciting time for poker in the Keystone State.
