The Philadelphia Eagles (13-3) continued their slide in Week 17, losing this time to the Saints 20-10 at home on New Year’s Day. Gardner Minshew once again filled in for the injured Jalen Hurts and failed to help the Birds clinch the No. 1 NFC seed.
The Eagles can still clinch that No. 1 spot in Week 18 if they handle business against the New York Giants in Philadelphia on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Early in the week, PA sports betting apps had the Eagles favored over the Giants with the spread set at -13.5 points. The over/under total was set between 41.5 and 43 points (compare lines below).

Jalen Hurts injury update for Week 18, MVP odds
Hurts sat out Week 16 vs. the Cowboys and Week 17 vs. the Saints with a sprained SC joint in his throwing shoulder. According to ESPN, the team hoped to be able to continue resting Hurts in Week 18. With the upset loss to the Saints in Week 17, however, Hurts is now expected to play with the No. 1 seed still on the line.
After Hurts’ odds to win MVP fell to -175 after Week 14, he is now tied with Josh Allen for third-best odds at +1600.
Eagles vs. Giants NFL Week 18 betting preview
The Giants secured a playoff berth in Week 17 with a huge win against the Colts, 38-10. At 9-6-1, the Giants are locked into a Wild Card spot as the sixth seed in the NFC. This game against the Eagles cannot change that, so it’s possible the Giants will rest some starters to prepare for the playoffs.
The Eagles, on the other hand, are playing for a first-round bye and home field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. If they were to lose to the Giants, the Eagles could still get the No. 1 seed if: the Cowboys loss to the Commanders and the 49ers lose to the Cardinals in Week 18.
In their last meeting in Week 14, the Eagles handily defeated the Giants at Metlife Stadium with a final score of 48-22. Hurts was healthy for that matchup and threw for 217 yards and two TDs, while rushing for another. Miles Sanders added another two rushing TDs and Boston Scott had one.

Eagles vs. Giants Week 18 betting insight
About a month ago, nobody was expecting the Giants-Eagles Week 18 matchup to mean much, especially for the Eagles. The tide has turned with the Giants clinching a playoff spot before the Eagles. The Eagles need a win to clinch the NFC East and the No. 1 seed.
Now that the game matters, Live! Casino Philadelphia is expecting a good turnout.
As the Giants are not playing for anything, currently locked into the No. 6 seed, and the point spread currently sitting at 14 pts, we still expect the Eagles/Giants game to have the highest handle of any game this weekend,” Bryan Newman, General Manager, FanDuel Sportsbook at Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia.
Betting can get tricky with players resting and even injured, which is still the case with Jalen Hurts. Hurts is listed as questionable heading into Sunday’s game, but is expected to play. Newman gives some insight on the betting behavior for these types of situations.
“From what we have seen in the past, our bettors typically tend to wait until the last minute to make their wagers on the Eagles as there is no concrete report if Jalen Hurts is playing or not.” Newman said. “If he is ruled out, the point spread may drop from 14 to 8 points overnight. Our bettors are currently waiting on the sidelines until the Eagles make their decision on who will be the starting QB.”
Here is some insight on how Newman handles the player prop market for teams that might be resting starters:
“Per FanDuel’s policy, we tend to not list player props on certain players if we are not confident they will play,” Newman said. “In the event that a player is out when placing a bet on them, that selection will be voided and counted as a push.”
