Powerball is back with another major jackpot up for grabs in tonight’s drawing. With no grand prize winner in the previous drawing, the Powerball jackpot now sits at an estimated $322 million for Oct. 1. Many jackpot winners choose to receive the cash value of their prize in a single payment. The lump sum cash value tonight would be $170.8 million, before withholding.
In the previous drawing, one lucky player hit the second-tier $1 million prize and had their winnings doubled thanks to the Power Play ticket option. The ticket, sold in Florida, matched all five white balls drawn but not the red Powerball. The $1 Power Play option multiplies all prizes other than the jackpot. The FL winner came away with $2 million before taxes.

PA ranks high in Powerball jackpot wins
So far this year, there have been six Powerball jackpot winners. The most recent jackpot was hit on Aug. 3 in Westmoreland County, PA for $206.9 million. The keystone state has had 18 jackpot winners over the years, the fifth-highest of any state. Before the August win, PA hadn’t seen a jackpot winner since 2018. The 2018 jackpot was $456.7 million.
Of the 45 states where Powerball tickets are sold, some states are yet to have a jackpot winner. Maine, Mississippi, North Dakota and Wyoming are still awaiting their first grand prize win. Tickets are also sold in Washington D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Of the three, only the Virgin Islands hasn’t gotten a jackpot win yet.
