On Friday, a lucky Mega Millions player from MI tripled their big $1 million win to $3 million by matching the first five numbers and having the Megaplier option on their ticket.

The Megaplier option costs an extra $1 and multiplies your winnings based on the multiplier number drawn. Another player from NC won $1 million in that drawing.

While there’s more buzz about the giant Powerball jackpot right now, Mega Millions is stepping it up to a generous $253 million for the Jan 4. drawing and that’s nothing to sneeze at. The lump sum cash value of the Mega Millions jackpot is $175.6 million.

If you decide to try for one of these jackpots, remember that your odds of winning remain the same no matter how high the jackpot goes or how many other tickets are sold.

Mega Millions drawings are held on Tuesdays and Fridays after 11 p.m. EST. Check below for tonight’s winning numbers.

Scratch-Off tickets paid big money in December

There was another $3 million winner this week in PA. The winning ticket was a MONOPOLY 100X Pennsylvania Lottery Scratch-Off sold in Lackawanna County at Fast Lane Mart. Monopoly 100X is a $30 ticket with top prizes of $3 million. Fast Lane Mart will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. Until the recent launch of a $50 scratch-off ticket in PA, $30 was the most expensive ticket available.

In December, two other lottery players in Allegheny and Cumberland counties won $1 million on PA Lottery Scratch-Offs. Those prizes account for only a tiny portion of the more than $223 million claimed by Scratch-Off players in the Commonwealth in December, according to a PA Lottery press release.

Other big wins last month included two prizes of $500,000, three prizes of $250,000 and two prizes of $100,000. The PA Lottery reminds players to check their tickets promptly at the lottery retailer, and to immediately claim any winnings. Tickets expire and prizes must be claimed within one year of the game’s end-sale date.
