BWW and BetMGM Join Forces

Do you want a parlay with your wings?

BetMGM has teamed with Buffalo Wild Wings to serve up sports betting products to customers located inside the restaurant. The “sports betting experience” is being called the first of its kind and rolled out in six states including New Jersey on March 10.

Why wasn’t Pennsylvania in the initial launch and when will the BWW and BetMGM experience fly into Pennsylvania?

Representatives told PlayPennsylvania that they plan to launch the partnership in Pennsylvania Buffalo Wild Wings, but the geolocation technology for the enhanced odds feature is not yet live in PA.

BetMGM and Buffalo Wild Wings promo details

There are about thirty Buffalo Wild Wings locations in Pennsylvania. The newest location opened in late 2020 at the King of Prussia Mall, the largest shopping mall on the East Coast.

The “meat” of the partnership is a new feature on the BetMGM online sportsbook app called “Blazin’ Bets.” Geolocation technology allows the sportsbook apps to determine if customers are in states where sports betting is legal. In this case, geolocation will allow the app to pinpoint customers physically inside a BWW.

The BetMGM and Buffalo Wild Wings promotion includes:

  • Exclusive curated boosts, bets, and parlays.
  • New users of the BetMGM app will receive a 100% deposit match in their account up to $500 and earn a $20 electronic gift card to Buffalo Wild Wings.

Rita Patel, Chief Marketing Officer at Buffalo Wild Wings said:

“Fans wagering on sports inside Buffalo Wild Wings can now win bigger on select bets thanks to our innovative partnership with BetMGM. As sports betting continues to grow throughout the country, we look forward to further expanding our footprint in the space and activating our partnership with BetMGM in ways that make the experience at our sports bars second to none.”

OT Odds and free-to-play games too

In addition, Buffalo Wild Wings launched an in-bar channel, OT Odds Powered by BetMGM. The network will air on some screens throughout participating BWWs nationwide. The show features sports betting content, live game odds, and fantasy and betting advice.

Buffalo Wild Wings’ Picks and Props free-to-play game, available via the Buffalo Wild Wings mobile app got a design upgrade. It now has an updated parlay-style gameplay with new BetMGM elements.

Customers can make picks daily using BetMGM odds from any state that permits free-to-play games. Major prizes awarded monthly and select winners will be inducted into the newly created BWW Hall of Fame.

Wings and sports go together. More similar partnerships to follow?

The pairing of a sports betting app and sports bar seems a match as natural as wings and a cold beer.

In 2019, Buffalo Wild Wings entered into a multi-year strategic partnership with BetMGM. Since the announcement, more than 500,000 users have participated in BWW and BetMGM free-to-play games.

Matt Prevost, Chief Revenue Officer, BetMGM, said,

“Our partnership with Buffalo Wild Wings is incredibly innovative and allows BetMGM to redefine how fans enjoy sports. The introduction of geolocation technology to offer bettors a customized experience in a Buffalo Wild Wings location is a great example of what we’re able to activate through this groundbreaking relationship.”

David Schwartz, a gambling historian at UNLV told the Denver Post:

“This partnership makes it clear that MGM — and I doubt it is alone here — is looking to expand its footprint in a time when visiting casino resorts isn’t necessary to gamble. I think that this is a glimpse into the kinds of partnerships we will see as physical locations try to leverage sports betting in a digital era.”

Record-breaking month for sports betting in PA

Usually a sportsbook arrives before an online casino but the reverse occurred in the case of BetMGM in Pennsylvania. BetMGM online casino launched in Pennsylvania on Dec. 4 2020 and the sportsbook app followed about two weeks later. And a BetMGM Poker app is expected in the near future.

Sports betting handle in Pennsylvania hit an all-time high in January, reaching $615.3 million. Revenue for January hit $34 million.

In its first full month, BetMGM had a handle of $39 million and $414,300 in revenue. It put the new sportsbook about fourth in terms of handle among PA’s twelve online sportsbooks.
