Since Parx Bensalem is the top-grossing casino in Pennsylvania, it decided to open another venue in Shippensburg. To celebrate Parx Shippensburg’s one-year anniversary, the property is donating $100,000 to several regional nonprofit groups.
Parx is one of the biggest gaming brands in the state, offering two retail locations and one of 21 PA online casinos.
Parx Shippensburg provides donations to nonprofit organizations to ring in anniversary
Parx Shippensburg celebrated its grand opening on Feb. 3, 2023, with a memorable ribbon-cutting ceremony. The establishment opened as the 17th casino in the state, which offers 500 slot machines and 48 electronic table games.
As one full year goes by, the facility is giving back to the community. A press release emailed to PlayPennsylvania broke down how the funds are being distributed and to whom. Here is the breakdown:
- Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce: $31,000
- Vigilant Hose: $15,000
- Cumberland Valley Community Connections: $15,000
- Shippensburg Police Foundation: $10,000
- Shippensburg EMS: $10,000
- CV Hose Company: $5,000
- West End Fire and Rescue: $5,000
- Christ Among Neighbors: $2,500

Ron Davis, Director of Diversity and Community Development at Parx Casino, said in the release:
“As a good neighbor, Parx Casino is proud to annually award impact donations to a number of great charities and nonprofit organizations. As a company we are always focused on sharing our success with the community.”
Parx Shippensburg will be presenting the donations at a luncheon this week at Liberty Bar & Grill inside the casino.
Scott Brown, President and CEO of Shippensburg Chamber of Commerce, also commented on Parx’s donations:
“The community funds provided by Parx Casino provides a great support to our community’s non-profit organizations which allows them to extend more services to the Shippensburg community.”
Parx Shippensburg performance as mini-casino in the Keystone State
A Pennsylvania mini-casino cannot offer more than 750 slot machines and over 40 table games. Here are four facilities in the state that meet that criteria:
- Parx Shippensburg
- Hollywood Casino York
- Hollywood Casino Morgantown
- Live! Casino Pittsburgh
Parx Shippensburg has been consistent in its slot revenue since the start of this fiscal year. It recorded the following totals since July:
- July: $2.7 million
- August: $2.6 million
- September: $2.7 million
- October: $2.5 million
- November: $2.5 million
- December: $2.9 million
It could take some time until Parx starts reaching the figures of the other mini-casinos. However, Parx Shippensburg has created a quality niche within that portion of the state. Parx Chief Marketing Officer, Marc Oppenheimer, said that the Shippensburg location is available to 500,000 people across many communities.
Parx continues to show the strong brand awareness it has within the state, in both the online and retail verticals. Donating $100,000 certainly can’t hurt its image.
