Online casino operators in Pennsylvania are reaching heights that not many ever saw coming. After September’s record revenue total of $187.3 million, the Keystone State is on pace to produce more than $2 billion in yearly earnings.

The rate at which PA online casinos are growing, it won’t be surprising to see the market hit the $2 billion mark annually.

Pennsylvania online casinos to easily eclipse $2 billion in yearly revenue

After generating a US online casino record of $187.3 million in September revenue, operators are eyeing $2 billion in overall 2023 earnings. That would shatter last year’s total of $1.7 billion in revenue.

September’s all-time performance has the Keystone State averaging $169.2 million in monthly revenue in 2023. That mark puts yearly revenue on pace for $2.03 billion when it’s all said and done.

There’s no reason to believe operators won’t get there. Despite a somewhat down July of $157.1 million in earnings, the state rebounded nicely in August, posting $171.9 million, which was the second-best total ever at the time.

The gaming season starts in the fall for online operators. Residents in Pennsylvania aren’t leaving the state for vacations and the sports calendar is heating up. That means more people are going to spend time online gaming.

Could Pennsylvania reach $190 million in monthly revenue? It wouldn’t be wise to rule it out.

Main contributors to PA online casino success

There are several reasons why Pennsylvania online casinos are consistently breaking records.

New PA casino online launches

Pennsylvania has launched three new platforms during 2023:

Giving players three new apps is going to greatly contribute to the already robust market Pennsylvania has. Since Tropicana is tied to the Harrah’s Philadelphia license, it’s difficult to see its exact total. However, Harrah’s Philadelphia generated $7.5 million in September revenue, its best-ever performance and $1 million more than last month.

Bally’s has produced at least $1.9 million in revenue in each full month of operation post-launch. It went live with more than 200 slots and a known brand from its Atlantic City retail presence.

Golden Nugget, another brand with an Atlantic City presence, came out of the gate strong in Pennsylvania. The operator recorded $6.4 million in its first full month of operation, which finished seventh among licensees.

Golden Nugget has a strong presence in other states, such as Michigan and New Jersey, and launched in Pennsylvania with nearly 600 slots. Expect the platform to be a strong factor in the Keystone State.

PA online casinos continue to update games and offerings

Pennsylvania online casinos are always adding, upgrading and enhancing games for players.

There are more than 8,000 slot games available for players across 20 different platforms. BetMGM Casino PA is introducing slots from famous TV shows and movies, such as The Godfather, to appeal to players. BetMGM also has slots from:

  • Ted
  • Peaky Blinders
  • Cats
  • Beavis and Butt-Head
  • The Goonies
  • Hell’s Kitchen
  • Hercules

Borgata Casino PA, BetRivers Casino PA and PlaySugarHouse Casino supply a combined 3,000 slots to Pennsylvania players.

The addition of PA live dealer games has created an innovative niche in the online casino market, as well. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) reported that live dealer games have generated more than 50% of online table games revenue during FY 2022/2023, up from the previous fiscal year total.

While blackjack is the most popular live dealer title, operators have added several other games such as:

  • Roulette
  • Baccarat
  • Craps
  • Three Card Poker
  • Ultimate Texas Hold ‘Em
  • Football Studio

More online casinos are expected to join the mix. Fanatics, bet365 and PlayStar are launching apps in the near future. And existing operators are going to continue to upgrade their current portfolio of games.
